MSE News: Ryanair raises fees again

  • Bob. I used to be like you.. in fact, my bags are all "ryanair" size, and they have saved me hundreds and hundreds of pounds. I have never had a problem with the airline.. i knew what to do, how to get there cheap, cheap flights, never having to pay for any extras.. but the thing is.. i sat down one day and realised that if i flew with easyjet, adding on how much it cost me to get to stansted, the times ryanair flew and how much it cost when i landed, it would be the cost exactly the same for me to use easyjet as it would ryanair. I then included the fact that my flights would leave from gatwick and not get back home at 1am, i started using them.

I flew with ryanair last week. I luckily got to use my fairfx card for the last time and got super cheap flights to my destination that i needed. But now, with the introduction of the cash passport, they have officially lost a customer. I think they may have gone too far, even for me, and believe me, i have put up with !!!! with ryanair,

I wish the days of 1p flights, free hold luggage and real deals were still here , but they arent.
  • But the bottom line is that you can still fly around Europe for less than the cost of the bus to the airport in some cases. For example less than ten quid in total, see below

    Free Online Check in
    Depart:
    Karlsruhe-Baden - 21:35
    Arrive:
    London-Stansted - 22:05
    1 x Adult 10.99 EUR

    Fare 10.99 EUR
    Taxes and Fees 0.00 EUR
    Online Check-In 0.00 EUR
    EU 261 Levy 0.00 EUR
    Sub Total 10.99 EUR
    Total Price 10.99 EUR

    Free Online Check in
    Depart:
    Knock - 15:45
    Arrive:
    Liverpool - 16:50
    1 x Adult 8.00 EUR

    Fare 8.00 EUR
    Taxes and Fees 0.00 EUR
    Online Check-In 0.00 EUR
    EU 261 Levy 0.00 EUR
    Sub Total 8.00 EUR
    Total Price 8.00 EUR That's about £6.85 !!!!!

Out of interest, what dates are these and how much are the flights for the outgoing leg. Quoting one-way is about as much use as a chocolate teapot for most people as they need to get there and back.

And of course for O'learys love child to wave the "Ryanair are the cheapest" banner around he probably had to scour their site all day to find that price.
BTW you are not related to polishbigspender are you Bob?
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

and me, I also won`t be getting their cashcard and probably won`t fly with them again.
Searching for a Malaga flight today, they didn`t come out the cheapest anyway.

Cheerio Michael, it was good while it lasted.

Ryanair have killed their site for me with that stupid enter text display box thing before you can see prices, that will lose them loads of customers.

They've put that stupid captcha word box thing on there to deter travel agents, but now the general public can just call a travel agent to find out which Ryanair flights are available as it's easier to make a call than to keep entering the codes themselves on Ryanairs website!!
  • Well, Ryanair are certainly masters of negative marketing...and they are so successful..well done. I took their advice and booked another airline saving an absolute fortune..... Ryanair was going to cost well over £ 230 for a £70 flight...whereas Alitalia..all in... £ 115 in taxes, 23kg bag & snack! So thank you Mr O'Leary for kindly telling customers to use other airlines, will definitely tell all my friends to do the same....Merry Christmas..

ADMINS: The "Top story: Ryanair raises baggage fees" link in the weekly e-mails is broken (goes to unrelated page) - please feature this again in a future newsletter, as customers need to be warned.

Ryanair are manipulative, misleading vampires. The majority paying for baggage at the airport have been caught out by their stingy weight limits and hand baggage police (10kg? No one else limits hand luggage weight AFAIK), not deliberately chosen to do so. £100 each way is disgusting - classic hidden fee tactics.

To those saying these are deterrent fees: rubbish. They're hidden in the small print, not published up front - much like the rest of the costs when flying Ryanair. How they get away with the charge for paying, I do not know - clearly it should be included in advertised "prices".

Rubbish regarding hand luggage charges, it is in large letters on your boarding card. I quote from my summer boarding card, the bits in bold and underlined and exactly as per the boarding card.:

    Warning - 1 CABIN BAG ONLY 55 x 40 x 20 cm (MAX 10 kg)
(Handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, cameras etc. must be carried within your 1 cabin bag.)
Extra/oversized cabin baggage will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee of £/€35. If you are unsure , check at the Bag Drop desk before going through security. N.B. There is no baggage allowance (cabin or checked) associated with the purchase of an extra
    seat.
