MSE News: Ryanair raises fees again

My issue with Ryanair is the price for these extras in relation to the actual cost. Does Ryanair really believe that the total cost to print out a new boarding card i.e paper / card plus ink together with the cost of the person who issues the new ticket (on min wage and prob takes 10mins max to do) is equal to 60quid. It is obvious Ryanair is increasing these prices just to boost their profit margins.I use multimatcher lazza which has the tab "bonus if 0-0"0

As for the trumpets I'd like to take them and stick em up where Ryanair don't fly:mad:
Really? A one minute announcement that you have arrived on time and a walk through offering you the chance to purchase something make you this mad? How stuck up can you get - everyone always laughs at the trumpet on the Ryanair flights I'm on and plenty of people buy something - so it's obviously wanted. Plus if you don't want to buy anything, just sit there and don't ask for anything - they don't force you to buy...Consumerist wrote: »That's exactly what I've done and, door-to-door, saved a packet.
Once they've priced themselves out of the market, they'll go bust and we can all have the last laugh.
Mr. O'leary has been giving this very good advice for some time - I've taken it and haven't looked back.
Ryanair is one of the most profitable airlines in Europe. They are a no-frills airline - something you clearly don't understand the meaning of.Shame you can't buy a second ticket for a bag and have it on a seat next to you because it'd probably be cheaper!
With these charges they are basically saying "travelling with checked baggage? we don't want your business thanks" much like they did a while ago with skis.
Yes, that's exactly what they are saying. And they have in fact been saying this - in no uncertain words - for years. They do not want you to check in luggage because it holds up the plane. My issue with Ryanair is the price for these extras in relation to the actual cost. No they don't believe that is the cost - and have never said that is the case. As with all their other ridiculous fees, it is there to stop people forgetting/losing their pass. That A4 print out is now in effect worth £100 - are you going to take more care with it now?0 -
To some extent what this company is doing is just what banks do: add punitive charges for those who don't know and follow the intricacies of the hoops they make you jump through.
It'd be interesting to know what percentage of revenue is from penalty charges and what from just flying people around.0 -

I think it's usually machines which reprint boarding cards. £60 is steep. Is there any way of capturing the image of the boarding card so that if you do lose it you can reprint it from email or something at the airport even one hour before departure0

I dont think it has anything to do with the cost it is about having to have someone there to provide the service. The other option would be to not offer this service at the airport which means that anyone who forgets their boarding card would not be able to fly.
Ryanair claim fewer than ten people a day pay the £40/€40 boarding card fee which makes you wonder why they feel the need to increase it.
And Ryanair still doesn't allow passengers to print their own boarding cards in the four hours before flying. Why?0 -

If the article is correct the increase is £5 per bag in 'peak months'. At some stage Ryanair expanded 'peak months' to include June and September as well July and August.0 -

Because they can. It's a free market right? As long as they tell you what their charges are going to be, then you can choose which airline meets your needs for the price.0 -

To get rid of those 10 per day? If there are less than 10 people a day paying the fine, then increasing it further isn't exactly a big revenue scheme.
And I've always been curious about that too - it's not just Ryanair who does that, many airlines won't let you do it 4 hours before the flight. Possibly the system isn't designed terribly well, and at that 4 hour cut off point the boarding pass option has to be removed in order to transfer it to the airports system so they can print it off it required?tobiascurious wrote: »I think it's usually machines which reprint boarding cards. £60 is steep. Yes. You don't just print your boarding pass as such - you get given a PDF file to download and print. You can therefore keep that PDF file as long as you want.
Yes £60 is steep - as I said, that is the entire point. If you just ask people to remember their boarding pass they will ignore you. If you tell them "remember your boarding pass or I'm going to charge you £100", they will remember!0 -
Sounds to me as though we've got some Ryanair employees singing for their supper on this thread.
