Inasmuch as the little "nation" of this family is concerned, she has! :D

She's tactfully made her stance clear, while giving the DIL an "out". Very simply achieved, but masterfully effective. Lol.

The family continues existing happily, and DIL knows better for next time.

    Brilliant :D

OP I'm glad you are feeling better and next year will be attending!

I don't have to invite my Mom, she usually just invites herself anyway! Lol! She always finds out when one of my kids mentions the event to her.

The school have never said anything about a maximum number of guests. I know once the seats are full, there's usually room to stand at the back. The one time there was myself, hubby and my Mom and Dad.

OP - You handled it well. Although I would have myself been inclined to ask DIL when it was originally mentioned, then you probably wouldn't have missed it, but that's just my opinion.

Yes, that was MY mistake! lol - cos my other DIL automatically gets me a ticket for her daughters 'school events' I am afraid that I assumed that I would get one for GS. I will know better next time and make sure that DIL knows I want to attend!
I must be insane - I actually ENJOY school nativities etc! I love to see the littlies especially. The looks on thier faces when they realise for the first time in their life they are 'ON STAGE' - and those earnest looks as they try to remember thier lines and what 'miss' said to do! its priceless!!!!
  • You do sound like SUCH a nice grandma that I am personally giving your DIL the benefit of the doubt and saying she must be thoughtless because I can't see why she wouldn't want you there!
  • Why didn't your son say 'oh did you get a ticket for mum too'?
    Just a thought.

You perhaps shouldn't 'compare' (not sure if that is the right word) this DIL to your other DIL, just because one does something the other might not.

Anyway, as long as your DG enjoyed it - that is the main thing.
