Sorry if this has been posted before, but got a phone call today from a company called Total Refund. They claimed that for an upfront fee of £49, they will reclaim all my charges plus interest.

When I asked her about the High Court ruling not out until the new year at least, they claimed that they could get my cheque out in 4-7 weeks, as the ruling doesn't affect them.

Anyone heard of these or dealt with these??

    Thanks.

    Take care bobbyjo
Sounds like a scam to me, this ruling affects all of us so how can they be immune, also if the fee is up front, I don't think you would hear from them again.

Highly unlikely, did they explain further how the ruling 'doesn't affect them'.

They won't be doing anything you can't do yourself, the only cost being your time. You'll get good experience, satisfaction and won't be paying out to anyone!
  • Hi Benno,
I experienced the same thing today. However, when I asked how they had got my number the young lady told me she didn't know and I must have given it to them. There is no way anyone gets my number unless I want to talk to them. So, when I complained about receiving an unsolicited call to a private number the young lady just explained that the number was on her list to ring, no apology or excuse. But, when I asked for an address and the name of someone in authority the girl got very nervous and hung up. I did a search for the number on the net and it appears to be a BT payphone somewhere in Manchester. My advice is to simply hang-up if you receive a call from this number. I think you are right Benno, send them the cash and never hear from them again. Its well dodgy....

any chance that the full number could be published so that everybody is aware of them when they make the call.
Also, why not play along and say you will send a cheque to get the full address. This can then be forwarded to the relevent authorities who investigate scams. Obvioulsy, no monies would be sent

  • Hi im not sure if any one has had the same phone call. i had one claiming this company 'Bank wrights bureau' can get my bank charges back for the last 6 years which was great i though. They said there would be a 39.99 fee, didnt tell me when i had topay it asked for card details which i gave and i called the bank and was advised im now overdrawn (no overdraft) due to 2 card transactions of 39.99 I didn't authorise 1 not alone 2 so beware of the phone call ones. I was asked if i had more then 1 account to reclaim and i said i wasn't sure possible and he said that he would get 2 forms sent out at no point was i advised that i would get charged before recieving forms! im not happy as they just took out the only money i had to my name till next week and that was for cheque payments i've sent. yet more charges and im already on benefits due to disability.
I dont see why i even bother anymore!
