You're looking specifically for cancellation penalties. Depending on what you find effects what you do next. Ultimately you need to cancel with them (if that is what you want to do).
There is no reason you can't do this reclaiming yourself. If you really want to get a 3rd party to do it then you can either use the Financial Ombudsman who charges nothing, or use a legitimate solicitor.
Thanks Kurt_Hamster,
I have finally managed to get through to somebody and thankfully (but also annoyingly) they have not got my application and have mad a note should it appear which they think unlikely, they will not proceed.
I am extremely nervous about reclaiming my bank charges, especially as they have closed my account for bounced direct debits etc.0 -

If they've already closed the account, there's not much in the way of retaliatory action they can take against you.
You are in a better position than some others. Follow the guide and go for it. Also read the Reclaim Help thread in my signature for lots of useful advice.0 -

If you are concerned about the procedural side of things and dealing with the courts then I'd recommend you go the FO route. It's free and distances you from all the legal mumbo-jumbo. The upside is that should the FO fail then you do still have the option of taking the bank to court.

Sian, there is a letter in this thread by justlaugh2 who wrote to cancel her contract with a similar company, I suggest you write to them as well and ask for all your statements back ASAP.
Edited to add this link to the BBC regarding these type of companies...

Can martin or anyone else for that matter, help me??
Back in October/November last year, I contacted a company via the 'Which' website. They said they would recover my bank charges for a fee of 25%. They also stated that they could do this in approx six weeks. It is now getting on for seven months and despite my requests for info, I am just told that the banks are being difficult. Around three months ago, I was told that we were nearly at the last stages and now I am starting to get fed up with the wait. On a couple of occasions I have phoned and been told that someone would call me back later with info and then not heard back from them. Its all frustrating!!
Although I signed something to say I would stick with them, does anyone know if there is a way out of it as Im sure i could do this quicker myself?
Im fed up with the lack of information, the non-return of calls and the total mis-calculation of time scale that was suggested. Please help and advise.
thanks
Hi Booey69,
First post on this forum, even though I have followed with interest for the past nine months. I to have enlisted the help of two companies to reclaim both bank and credit card charges. Oddly enough, in respect of the credit card charges (4 cards) i am experiencing exactly the same thing, the same dialogue from the company to the note! I started my claims with them on 7th November last year. I am fobbed off with, "we are investing our time in working on claims and havent got the capacity to speak to people re their claims," and "the four banks in question are the most difficult." I,d be interested to know which company you are using, their name doesnt have two LL's by any chance does it?
Good luck to all with their claims, keep it going.0 -

That was the company that i got nowhere with! ( See earlier posts)Did you know that that paticular company has NO registered solicitor!!!
They give the impression that they are an office full of solicitors, but not one of them is.
It must be very daunting when you have a few different claims with different banks but that company dont seem to be doing anything. Perhaps it time to think about taking it on yourself.
GOOD LUCK0 -
Hi
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they think of this company ***** who claim that they can get you the best result due to their legal knowledge of the system. They charge 10% and I would be willing to give them 10% if i won, especially since getting 100% of what i am entitled to is an incentive to them but i don't want to be a naive fool and hand over my financial information to a bunch of cowboys.
I would be really interested to hear what you have to say on this, Martin:money: , or anyone else who may have used a third party to help them. I know a lot of you will say "Do it on your own, it's easy" but I am not particularly confident about entering a court process alone and am even having trouble trying to make sure i add up every pound i've been charged correctly. The reams of paper Natwest sent me (with suspiciously confusing duplicate pages thrown in randomly so as to make it even more difficult) are so extensive that it would be very reassuring to have a second opinion. I'm also planning my wedding and moving home at the same time so having a professional on the case would take the stress out of it. I really don't want to get myself into a situation where i have bitten off more than i can chew and enter a court situation unprepared because I am spreading myself so thinly but i do want to deal with this right now. I'm not even sure i'm writing on the right conversation thread or if there is a more appropriate one, so apologies if i am not and please steer me in the right direction!:o
Thanks

I am using the same company for the same reason I'm a bit concerned by the court process as well. I am trying to get back about 3k from Lloyds TSB I'm just waiting on the forms to employ their services.

Sam
Please read any contract carefully as if after 3months you still dont have a result ( as is happening alot with those claim back companies) you would still be liable to pay them their cut if you decide to do it yourself.
Would be better to contact the Financial Ombudsman who take on your claim for free.
The majority of people are taking on the claim themselves and getting a result. Sometimes it only takes a couple of letters ( using templates from this site)
So be carefull. and GOOD LUCK0
