Neighbour finds our christmas lights "annoying"...

Try Henri Bendels in NYC. When I was before at new years they had really nice lights. I dont see how anyone could call them tacky, they were just pretty.
There is a definite difference between some lights that are tacky and others that arent. Its silly to say all lights are tacky without even seeing them. I walked through what you would call a chavvy area today and yes some of the decs they had up on the houses there were pretty tacky. Fun, but tacky - although it was in the day time so they obviously looked a lot worse anyway.
Then along another street in a nicer area, all the characters disappeared and the lights went mainly white with the odd colour, and it looked pretty nice. Maybe some people think thats tacky too, but I think theres a way of doing it and it doesnt have to always look cheap and nasty just because its lights on a house!0 -

Yup, that's an over-cooked American show Neo. As you see, they've also docked his ears to make him look more 'brutish'. I agree with you, that type of breeding is hideous.I've never understood the appeal of getting a breed just because its rare, or the people who say 'Oh, I had Shar peis/bulldogs/DDBs/pugs for years, long before they were so common.' but you do hear it a lot.
Well for me, I've always loved giants breeds and particularly Mastiffs and Danes. I wanted an English Mastiff until I 'met' my first Neapolitan about 15 years ago outside a Cornish pub and was blown away by his character and colouring. Unlike English Mastiffs (which I still love), the Neapolitans are very intelligent and I liked that too. For me, the fact they were rare (they nearly died out after WWII) was more of a worry than a bonus; I immediately wanted to help make sure they didn't die out by increasing their popularity by one. I now consider myself a bit of a local one-woman 'Neapolitan missionary' because I get a lot of questions from people and am able to spread the word that actually, despite their enormous size and fearsome looks, they are great family pets.“Don't do it! Very funny, passingly relevant, and oh so true link here:

I didn't read what it said but that man gets a thumbs up from me as he has in his hands two very fine bottles of bourbon - Marker's Mark and Woodford Reserve.“Don't do it! totally OT WW - but how big is he? I dream of one day having a home and garden big enough, and a hubby on board enough, to get a great dane - I suspect due to hubby rather than garden it will remian a dream!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Me and OH bought our tree yesterday and it cost £50 (not even that big). Would we pay that and only have the tree in our living room and decorated for a week or two?
I don't see why not; the longer you have decorations up, the less special they are. Anyway, you normally have them up for nearly a fortnight after Christmas anyway.0 -

He's 31" to the shoulder, about hip height on me and just shy of 12 stone. When he's laying down and stretching his legs out he's not far off 6ft in length. You don't actually need a big garden for these fellas because they don't do an awful lot of racing around and prefer to be inside with humans (they're bred to protect property and person). They're not good dogs to have if you're out all the time, because their function is to protect you they get anxious if they're away from you for long periods.
Walk wise it's a case of short and often. Mine will manage about 2 miles but he slows down to a real plod at that point. They don't jump very well (in fact you have to prevent giant breeds jumping at all for their first 18 months when they're growing) and they're fairly clumsy.
You can't be house-proud. If they shake their heads after having a drink you will be left with slobber all up the nearest wall and even on the ceiling. I have packets of wet-wipes everywhere and my walls are wipe-down paint. Mine has a best friend who's a merle Dane. The Dane is about 1 inch taller, but not as bulky.“Don't do it! i dont know how you manage to spend so much time on here with all of your children especially one with special needs bump, you must be very organised. My advice would be get off here and enjoy your children and do not worry about your neighbour, life is tooooooooooo short x
OMG that is so insensitive, OMG all threads end up the same way, every single one of them and why?0 -
