Don't you think it's a shame though that so many threads end up being locked because people feeling all brave behind the safety of their laptops have digs at others?Really pi$$es me off!!What happened to being nice?Is that not "the thing" to be anymore?

After being given a life sentence to a dibilitating disease, i view things a lot differently... insults on this forum are rife and i tend to ignore the hormonal rants.

i dont know how you manage to spend so much time on here with all of your children especially one with special needs bump, you must be very organised. My advice would be get off here and enjoy your children and do not worry about your neighbour, life is tooooooooooo short x

if you had done all your windows, i think from a drivers point of view a bit of a naughty distraction.

I think people forget that whilst they like to decorate their homes, drivers have all this extra light glaring in (the blue light even on my pc screen looks really bright), my worry is when i do drive through streets like this, what if a child runs out, i won't be able to see them because i'm blinded by this light.. But i bet the parents would blame me...

Given drivers face lights in many forms - emergency lights/ normal outdoor lighting etc, are you actually safe to be driving at night if you risk running over someone when faced with such a distraction?

Serious question as I know two people who will not drive at night because they know they aren't safe.

I'm afraid, legally, it would be your responsibility and not the parents.

I wear glassess to drive, and my night ones have some antiglare coating on them, for the street lights, as i used to hate/refuse to drive at night, But a line needs to be drawn when you can't see a thing apart from blinding flashing christmas lights where some streets have gone all festive.

I tend to at night in december

A, not drive down those streets
B, get OH to take me where i need to be.

One thing i am very strong willed about, if i don't feel well, i refuse to drive, if the visability is bad, i won't drive.

I like lights on houses :)

Some of them do look tacky, but who cares, it's just a bit of fun!! I can always turn my head or close my curtains and it's not me paying for the elctricity to run them is it?

We don't have any because I'm too much of a Scrooge to pay the cost to run them, but we did have some (window lights not house lights) when the older 2 were younger, and we'll probably get something like that again when the little man is a bit older.

I'd rather have flashing lights outside my window for 4 or 5 weeks of the year, than the silly moose next door to us who has music BOOMING midweek, year round, when I've got 2 kids in high school, a husband at work and a toddler who needs his sleep.

We've asked her before to turn it down (at the time it was being played) but she must have had a few scoops as she said the dog was fine...???!!!???

The last time she did it 3 weeks ago, I posted a note at midnight. Very polite, just asking could she not play it as loud as it was midnight and we could still hear it, so could she not have it as loud and as late, midweek, as the children have school and can't sleep. (even though I wanted to strangle to cow)

She hasn't spoke to me since.

The difference is, we can't close our ears when the trout plays her music, but the OP's neighbour can close her curtains.

She's just choosing not to because she doesn't want to, so she has not room to complain!

OP, you enjoy your lights and I hope you and your family have a magical Christmas! :)

My parent's do live in a house in a park in Scotland's largest city. I soemtimes saw hundreds of dogs in a week. Last neopolitan I saw was outside a Tesco superstore. Quite a young one and a little nervous (I assume it will grow out of it).

Christmas lights cannot be that nuisance and they are not that strong. May be the lights are not the actual problem of the neighbour. Do you have a dimmer for the Ch lights?
Some curtains do however let more light in than others.

I'd get a gigantic flashing sign saying 'BAH HUMBUG!' and have it flash as fast as possible. Next year she wouldnt moan about your characters etc.

You have young kids for gods sake. You have to make christmas special for your family and !!!!!! everyone else.

They are not being forced to, it's their choice!

Keep the curtains open, put up with the view. Close the curtains, shut out view.

    Simple.

    This!

I do wonder what she does when the sun is too bright. Does she try to complain to the sun that it shines too brightly?

Seriously, of all the things to moan about! Shutting your curtains when it's dark outside, and you can barely see anything anyway, is not a big deal.
