Whats that?
Statutory demands are written requests for the payment of a debt owed by an individual or business.
A demand is satisfied if the debt is ‘settled’ (paid in full) or ‘secured’ (an agreement is reached to pay it, for example, in instalments).
You shouldn’t ignore a statutory demand. If it isn’t satisfied or challenged, the creditor (person owed money) can apply to the court to issue a bankruptcy or winding-up order against you. Bankruptcy orders are for individuals and sole traders and ‘winding-up’ orders are the equivalent for a company.
If you own a business that has received a statutory demand you can get more information on what to do from the Businesslink website.
If you receive a statutory demand you have:
* 21 days (or 28 if you live abroad) to ‘satisfy’ the demand
* 18 days (or 22 if you live abroad) to ‘set aside’ the demand - challenge it in court to get it cancelled
If i recall correctly, the VAT office used to use them...0 -

Well another load of LIES, on Wednesday I phoned and spoke to call centre, Julie Roberts, and was promised that I would receive payment by CHAPS by close of Business on FRIDAY 2 November or at the latest AM this Morning, Phoned today at 2.45 and asked to speak to Manager Philip Maclan who I spoke to on 24 November as usual could not speak to him so the call centre operative Jonathan Gill told me that everything was clear for my payment by CHAPS, he said he would e-mail payment dept and I would be paid within 3 hours, but guess what ???? NO PAYMENT so because of Lloyds I cannot be close by my mother when she has a very serious operation tomorrow, If the result of this operation is not as hoped for Lloyds will look really bad in the national press.
I know the liers are probably censoring the posts on here but I am so furious and want to show the horrible spiteful thieves up.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Disgusting treatmentI really hope your mother's op goes Ok. I would write to my MP if you haven't already and the press and copy in the CEO

has anyone considered or used a Statutory Demand on them.
I've been thinking about taking this course of action. If it was a commercial debt and I was being treated like this by a debtor I would take this action so I can so no reason why not to in this instance. There is a debt clearly owed which has been admitted by Lloyds in their offer letter so there is no abuse of process and they have no defence to it. You have to be fully prepared though to follow it up with a WU Petition which will cost if you use a lawyer but you can claim this cost back.
A Stat Demand is a very effectiive debt collection tool if there is no dispute of the debt and yes HMRC use them alot.0
