Trouble is, they don't pay for the return of the letters, so sending them back is costing them nothing.0

You are just confirming that the address is live so basically helping them0 -
Would you enter somebodies house not knowing what might await you?
Now that's an interesting point. I heard of a story regarding the once-royally-disgraced village of Dummer and a BT employee. Said BT employee called customer up to gain access, she said "Key is under the mat, let yourself in."
BT member of staff opened door and was promptly bitten by family Labrador who lay in wait.
The BT engineer tried to have the dog destroyed and sue the woman for a bite to his hand. He nearly got his way until his colleagues learned of it and started to give him the cold shoulder and a bit of rough justice. He still made her buy him a meal. Those that worked with him were stunned as the rules were not to enter customer residential premises without the owner/tenant/agent in attendance. Really he should have been sacked for *his* behaviour.
So the moral of the story - beware going into the homes of others, even if invited with a big red carpet.0 -
I bet this guy has no problems with TV license inspectors.

Flipping WRONG American spelling strikes again. There is no 's' in 'licence'.
Seriously that woman was out of order and can't demand to come into your house without a warrant.0 -

I think it's worth remembering these two statements, from a BBC FOI Response. In terms of TV Licensing mailings I confirm that individuals are not obliged to respond. The occupant of a property has no obligation to grant entry to an enquiry officer. If refused entry the enquiry officer will leave the property
There are absolutely no circumstances in which you are obliged to respond to enquires from TVL, whether verbal or written, and only one circumstance in which you are obliged to allow access.
Remember that you are never obliged to answer any questions, allow yourself to be cautioned, or consent to be interviewed.
The right to remain silent is absolute and inviolate!0 -
Just tell the Capita-employed scum to f-off!
