TV License Inspectors

Tax Collectors have never been popular even from biblical times. Some contributors have an additional problem with the fact that the Government has contracted collection out to Capita.
Their job, it seems to me is to establish that households have valid TV licences and if not establish a reason or cause a fine/prosecution to occur.
One can argue that there shouldn't be a TV licence and that either it ought to be funded via general revenue collection or by advertising and both of these views are not without merit or problem but what is with the absurd over the top reactions from some unless, of course, they have something to hide in which case I hope the eventual fine is large enough to dissuade them from doing it again and forcing me to subsidise them.
I bet Capita could do it more efficiently, which is true of most bodies of this sort, but I can only say their dealings with me have been without problem.0 -
I stopped watching TV a few years back and have loads of problems with this company known near me as Crapita. Have spoken to them but still get a nasty threatening letter each month all because i would not let them search my home. If they have detection equipment they would not need to search my home this is just lies by the BBC, made to scare people into paying for this outdated tax.
Let them encrypt the signal this would stop the so called cheats if SKY and other companies can encrypt their signal why not the BBC that has billions to waste each year.0 -

IMHO, you would be better off not returning them.
All you are doing is confirming your address is receiving the letters.
Better to have the letters disappear without trace.0 -

I particularly like this one:
Could you please tell me which company or companies manufacture the hand held and van based TV
detectors as used by Capita and/or other companies under the guise of 'TV Licensing' in the detection
of tv signals related to illegal use of TV without a licence. NOTE I do not wish to know how they work
merely who manufactures them.
TV Licensing hand-held detectors and the detection equipment installed in TV Licensing detector
vans is manufactured by the BBC itself and not by external companies.
Come on, really?0 -
I've heard quite a few people saying that over the years. After the recent visit, I am rather inclined to think that detection equipment does exist and is used by the inspectors after all. I can't think why the inspector would not have wished to come inside to investigate here otherwise.
Would you enter somebodies house not knowing what might await you?As surely as night follows day capitalism will come crumbling down. On a mission to secure a just and ethical society.0 -
As all unlicensed properties would have received at least one warning letter from TV Licensing prior to being visited
So these letters aren't reminders or enquiries.
They're "warnings".
Isn't in normal practice, to determine if someone is doing something wrong, before warning them?0 -
Tax Collectors have never been popular even from biblical times.
These people are not tax collectors, their just sales people paid by Capita but have very harsh targets to hit which is why they shouldn't be trusted.
I would provide a link with proof but the forum says I can't
Some people seem to forget that this was created as a means of funding the BBC and the BBC onlyTheir job, it seems to me is to establish that households have valid TV licences and if not establish a reason or cause a fine/prosecution to occur.
According to the BBC their database already does that and those detector vans :rotfl:One can argue that there shouldn't be a TV licence and that either it ought to be funded via general revenue collection or by advertising
According to some the BBC is the best thing since sliced bread and everyone wants it therefore it makes more sence to have a voluntary subcription, the BBC would also save hundreds of millions then too0 -
Here is the Handheld detector.
