    re Fixed 6 months account

Just spoke to general enquiry line at ING who said offer was still on.
I said I'd like to open one and he transferred me to someone who went to the bother of taking my customer number and then told me offer was no longer running !

yet again I miss out by not doing things straight away !

BTW does my tax free allowance end in April being the end of the tax year?

Can I put £5000 in then if I wanted?

6th April is the first day of the new tax year, so you start a fresh personal allowance from then. However if you already have money earning interest, and you are continuing it into the new fiscal, you will obviously have to allow for the interest that will be earned on that.

Don't confuse how much you can save with how much tax free interest you can have ("Can I put £5000 in then if I wanted?"). You are looking at your overall tax earned between 6th April 2007 and 5th April 2008, so how much you put into savings in lump sums is not the issue. If you need any clarification on this I'm sure one of the friendly IFAs who help us on here will be able to explain it better!

Thank you for the link to the F'07-08 figures Suzey - that's a big surprise as I always thought they were not announced until Budget Day. I wasn't too far out! :T
