This is the link you need:
http://www.ingdirect.co.uk/home/faqs/direct_savings.html#taxfree
See the section
Account general
1. How do you calculate the interest on my ING Direct Savings Account?
2. Can I claim tax free savings?
Yes, if you are eligible you need to complete a HM Revenue & Customs Form R85. You can download the form by clicking here. or once your account is open, call us and we will be able to assist you over the telephone. If you have a joint account, gross interest can only be paid if both account holders are non-taxpayers. You will need your National Insurance number to hand to successfully register for gross interest. If you have more than one ING Direct Savings Account, you must register each account where you wish to recieve gross interest.0 -
Bogof_Babe wrote:Best of luck to anyone trying to ring ING today and wanting to speak to an "adviser". I just went through all that rigmarole of entering account & pin no's, listening to waffle etc., only to be told there was a 20 minute queue - this is on an 0845 number so I hung up.

Thanks Mary, but I think my post above covers developments on this. I already had a tax-free ordinary account with them, all I want is for the same to apply to my Websaver. I'm not hanging on to an 0845 number for 20 minutes+, and have now written them a letter which is ready to post when I can get out through the snowdrifts!
I presume they can apply my previous IR85 to my new account, but am not holding my breath because everything seems to get complicated these days.

Absolutely agree; it was ING who specified this was an 'internet-only' account, so it's frankly taking the &^*& to expect people to phone them to arrange this - other web-based accounts enable you to do this online.
And do ING actually publicise their email address yet? Or will it be the case that if you actually need to discuss anything on the 'Websaver' you'll just have to move the money into the ordinary account, then phone them?!

Well I couldn't find an email address, but I suppose I should be grateful that at least their postal address is Freepost, saving the cost of a stamp.

Instead of writing a letter, why not download the form and post it to them?mary wrote:2. Can I claim tax free savings?

You can contact ING on the following numbers:
0800 376 8844/6666Laughter is the sun

I wonder if that 0800 number answers any quicker! I just bit the bullet, rang the 0845 and hung on for 15 minutes, but got through eventually so it's done now (or so they tell me).
However, when he had finished trying to flog me a mortgage and home insurance, he asked if I had any other issues. I mentioned about the lack of an email contact facility, and he sounded like no-one had ever thought of that, and said he would pass it on! That will be one not to hold our breath for, I feel  .I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I've just realised, if they are doing the mortgage and insurance spiel to everyone who phones them, no wonder the waiting time is so long

Does anyone know if it is possible to have more than one Websaver, like you can have several differently named Direct savers?0
