Ing 6% fixed for 6 months & 5.65% Web saver (merged)

I have a 6 month 5.1% fixed rate account maturing tomorrow. Rang to enquire about the procedure for getting the money out and was told that for those who have already the 5.1%, you can now get a 6 month account fixed for 6%.

In addition their WebSaver is 5.65% as of today.

Can't get in at the moment to look but this has been timed to coincide with the earliest maturity date of 2 Feb for that fixed rate money to come out. Belated but welcome.

  • Does that mean the 'original' Direct Saver remains unchanged at 4.75%?

Yes, that still remains but the Websaver is a new one at a better rate and more competitive.

Just phoned them. They say it is staying at 4.75%.

But, a bit of good news this time (according to ING)....

Rate changes mentioned by mary where confirmed

    In addtion....

Websaver investment limit to be raised to £250,000 (from £25,000) and the 'no interest in the month' withdrawal restriction is being removed. The Direct Saver account must be retained with a £1 balance as a 'sweeper' account to move money in and out - and the Websaver, by definition, is 'internet only' - but otherwise that makes them look competitive with the likes of ICEsave.

The website is due to be updated at noon today, I was told, which should hopefully confirm the accuracy of this.

(So don't phone them just now - wait until this aftenoon and check the website - probably this page - again)

  • Looks like they have been forced to put some new offers in to retain everyone leaving.

Sure enough, as flagged by Milarky earlier on, the web page has been updated here

Welcome back to the real world, ING. ;)
  • And not a moment too soon.

Was minutes away from transferring everything to another certain online account.

Luckily I read this thread first.

More up to date that ING!

    Another triumph for MSE!

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
  • My now only ing accounts mature tomorrow and I will not be taking up their new 6% fixed account, I thought the previous ones were originally OK but the interest rate rises during the 6 months made the the rate offered look paltry at the 3 month mark, I imagine the 6% one will be the same. 90 day loss of interest should you withdraw some cash is not for me, its all going to icesave, hopefully by next friday.

  • Obviously the new range is not going to attract new customers, as two out of the three accounts are only available to existing customers, who I think will be pleased.

I suspect the intention is to re-attract those existing customers who reduced their holdings because of the non-increase last time, but still maintained a nominal presence 'just in case'.

IMO I quite like their interface, and it is very reliable and quite flexible.
