Perhaps you could post with some suggestions that you personally know to be effective, and not just repetitions of others posts.

    Repetitions of others posts?

I think thats the first time ive ever said that:confused:

Your saying im not allowed to agree with someone? Can I not voice MY own opinion?

    Touchy!
So can you point me to any effective antivirus/firewall etc for Linux that you have experience with.
    Please don't suggest Malwarebytes again.

  • aliEnRIK`s post makes complete sense.

This is a completely logical statement to make regarding the growth in users and the
intentions of scum that code this malware.

Most Linux users I know personally ,use open source protection of some kind ,whether it be hardware based or software based

I am not disagreeing about the fact that the spread of Linux will make it more liable to attack, similar is said about Macs.

    I totally agree with you.

I am trying to find out what aliEnRIK personally recommends for protection on my Linux OS.

    Im not

I know there IS one. But in all fairness everyones in the same boat........in the belief that Linux is inpenetrable.

It wasnt having a go at anyone in particular. In all fairness your probably still a WHOLE lot safer than I am using Vista (In fact im positive you are)

But that doesnt change the fact that as more and more users take it onboard, the programers will be taking notes so to speak. Thats my one and only point.

Yep, anyone can Google, you missed, probably the most widely known,

    http://www.clamav.net/

I see from your many other posts that you seem to be up on, well certainly Malwarebytes, so wondered what you recommended for Linux.

    Nothing it would seem.

I have edited the rest of your post so that the reply is more compact. I am amazed that Avast! slowed down your com[uter and you get pop-ups. I get none of this using the free version and it is so unobtrusive, updates itself and I never get asked to buy.
    1. Did you disable any existing Anti-Virus system before installing ? i.e. Windows. Did you get the latest version ?
    2. Try uninstalling (I use Revo uninstaller - brilliant) and re install from here:-

I'm afraid that it is not uncommon for Avast to do slow things down. I installed it and found a process that would hog CPU and memory for hours on end. When I looked on their forums, I found many others had problems with the same process. The support people were very unhelpful, saying something like, "It shouldn't do that - you must be doing something wrong". I uninstalled it within 36 hours.
