Might look into Eset Smart. Anyone try this?
I currently use Eset Smart Security, easiest and best antivirus and firewall I've ever used.

    superscaper, where are you?

Guess there's not much more that I can say. I imagine it's the same on Vista but I run it on XP. There's nothing to lose by using the trial first. Let it go to expiry and I think (if I remember correctly) you get the upgrade price instead of the full price when you buy from the expired trial.

The new Comodo firewall is a bit of a nightmare, should still be in beta imho. I'm currently running the last version 2.4 have the new one on a test system and would not recommend it to anyone as a good solution at the moment.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

I'd be interested to know how much security people have on their PC's to prevent spware, viruses etc. I've not had a single problem (spyware/virus/anything!) on my PC since having this package (all free). I run this on a Celeron 2.6 Mhz with only 128MB, so it takes a few minutes to boot up completely. But it's worth it.

    Avast! (Antivirus)

    Prevx (host intrusion protection)

    Ewido (extra anti-virus/malware/spyware protection)

    Microsoft Antispy (anti spyware)

    Zone Alarm (firewall)

Please help. I am trying to work out what is best to put on my computer for protection. My ex-husband used to do this. How do I know if I have firewall (have just recently signed with tiscali broadband)? Up until know(5 days left) Ive been protected by Norton but costs to resign for another year. should I just follow everthing you have listed? do I need to wait until Norton has ran out? My main worry is my daughter uses Bebo, and instant messanger, what will cover the computer if they send photos to each other? Just incase I have a xp computer

What you need is a firewall (Zone Alarm is fine), anti-virus (Avast), malware & spyware checker (Spyware Doctor & Spyware Blaster) you can also have AdAware SE. All these are free programs and most can be downloaded from www.download.com. If not just Google the name and it will give you locations for download. If your daughter is sending you photos there should not be any problems, as anti-virus and spyware originate from the sender or dodgy websites.

Did the same as you, used zonealarm for years and then changed to comodo. If you want to follow what I did after that, then that's down to you. After comodo I tried out the Eset Smart Security which includes firewall. After the trial ended I decided to purchase a license because I liked it so much and it's the best firewall I've used yet.

once the trial has ended for Eset smart security would it continue as a free firewall

Unfortunately not, you'd have to uninstall it and install a different firewall again or pay the licence, the entire suite is completely integrated. I'm not sure now but I think it's discounted if you've used the trial.
