I recommend that you go and have a look at http://www.pcworld.com/
(It's not the UK PC World but a USA technology Advice site!!!). Scroll down to Spyware Help Center and select. Lots of info on most antivirus, firewalls, anti spam, etc. software available including free versions! Comparative tests and weaknesses are shown for each product. For info - Antivir, Avast and AVG are all in top 10 performers for antivirus and Zone Alarm pro is rated well for firewall.

Hope this helps answer some of those questions!

A few weeks ago Aldi were selling AV/anti spam/firewall software for £6.99, I bought a copy and intend to use it when my Norton Internet Securities expires in a few months. It's called "Select eScan" and produced by Focus Multimedia Ltd.
I am curious as to if anyone else has bought and used this software, and what thier opinons are, if any.
    Cheers Dave T

    Never Heard of it.

I always want free software ... EXCEPT when it comes to anti virus - where I only want the best (waaay too important an area to skimp)- luckily the best isn't that expensive - and it's Called ....NOD32 - but don't take my word for it - do some searching online (google etc) and look for av reviews - it really is the best by a mile and quite reasonably priced. It's also not too heavy on system resources and runs scans very, very fast.

Oh and it has a 100% record on "in the wild" viruses (i.e. real viruses out there in the real world as opposed to created in an IT room somewhere) and has had for a very long time (allegedly the only AV product to have this 100% record)

I'm always wary of lone reviews on reviewcentre.com. You're trusting to one stranger's view: these are often likely to be "wonderful"
    [/URL]

Good advice - one review and it gives 10/10 oh what a huge surprise - if one was a cynic (thank god i'm not ;) ) one could think it was someone from the company had written the review.

Also it claims it runs on the Kapersky Engine and states this is German ...hmmmm really I always thought it was Russian check for yourself here:

Hmmm Moscow in germany now is it - anyone tell the world's cartographers ?

Thanks for that link but do you have one for the free download as i cant find it on that website???.

Also once i have put AVG on does that mean i can delete McAfee???
    Is that all i need?
    Cheers xx

Download your software you wish to use in the future for antivirus and as a firewall, uninstall your current firewall and anti virus, reboot and then install your new software.

Follows it's set up program routine and if it asks you to reboot when installed just do it.

the windows one only works in one direction so you should definitely use another one.

Zone alarm is certainly highly rated - I use sygate which is also a frontrunner

I'm not sure on that one .I think you can safely disable the windows one but not sure.

anyone else on here able to give a more confident answer on this ?
