I use bitdefender internet security 2010 (paid for version)
spyware doctor 2010 full version (paid for)
    super anti spyware full

but only have bit defender running for realtime protection, i just perform regular on demand scans with the ani spyware apps, as they do conflict and cause my pc to become reall slowwwww,
but i doubt that i will be renewing my subs with bitdefender as there have been too many issues with the s/ware this year, may give esset smart security a go looks good,
I no longer use the free av stuff i have used avast and panda, and did a free trial of kaspersky, avast i found didn't offer the amount of protection that i needed kaspersky slowed my pc to a crawl resource hog, (but that was a few years ago

It failed to find viruses malware that was on my PC, bit defender how ever did find and stop it,but the main reason was it's firewall it is supposed to be invisible to intruders, and certainly beats windows firewall every time,

one example, i was browsed to a site, bit defender blocked it, flagging it up as infected with xxx but it failed to stop some other bits of it, that had disabled windows firewall, and was showing in the system tray as some type of security app.it also tried to access the net bd flagged it up asking me to allow it or not(i ofcourse denied this action) plus from what i recall a few pop ups too, (which i ignored ) opened task man, (alt ctl del) and found its running processes killed those that i could try icon disappeared pop ups stopped, scanned with bit defender nothing found, so disabled bd 's real time protection, started up PC tools spyware doctor and updated it, the malware started going nuts, lol pop up after pop up as sd was scanning, it found it and several associated files & registry entries too , so even though bit defender failed to block all of this malware & detect it afterwards it stopped it comunicating via the www & possibly downloading more malware due to its robust firewall, and sd did it's job effectively, this was a very old virus /malware too , just one example why you can never have enough protection, btw i at no point during the short time connected to that malicious page did i click on anything or download anything it somehow did this without my knowlage and was completely hidden
  • I use AV anti-virus and MS security essentials. One usually picks up what the other misses, all for free.

    What is AV anti virus?
Are you saying that you run 2 anti virus?
    Both with realtime scanning?
    Move along, nothing to see.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security (firewall & AV), plus Ad-aware and Spybot. Seems to do the job!

Just last week I tried upgrading to KIS 2011 (from 2009) and had a lot of problems. Kaspersky support were quick and helpful BUT one of the items they listed for removal was Spybot, even though I only use it for its Innocuate function which should be just adding to the registry list of banned sites. When I queried that request they insisted that it could still 'interfere' with Kaspersky. I know Spybot had a battle with Kaspersky a while ago 'cos Kaspersky required its removal before installation. Maybe they're still at loggerheads?

Anyway, Kaskpersky 2011 stopped some venerable and trusty software running which ran perfectly OK with KIS 2009 (Excel 2000) so be careful before you upgrade to it. Kaspersky's response was that my Excel was "too old" to be tested and I should upgrade my MS Office suite. There may be other older software which KIS meddles with, so be warned.

Maybe it's just teething problems, but KIS 2011 seems to be suffering from a combination of software bloat, inadequate testing and just plain arrogance. I pay them to guard what I do, not tell me what software I can and cannot run. This could be the end of my long relationship with Kaspersky, and they'll lose another 14 licences if/when I go elsewhere when updates for 2009 stops next year.

[ OK, I know I broke my own rule about never installing version zero of anything, but I couldn't find the 2010 version on their web site so I tried 2011. Serves me right, I suppose. ]
