I used labs testing advice to find a high performing internet security pakage, but without the resource hogs of Norton, Mcafee & Kaspersky.

Also the first two listed are the poorest performers, half of Kaspersky's ability; but its a resource hog.

Steganos is the AVG engine, without the system load; built in Germany and with real customer support (I always test them) unlike Norton, which has none anymore.

I have used Steganos for 3 years and can highly recommend it.

Oh it goes without saying that Firefox is simpler, much faster and more secure than IE6/7/8 doesn't it?

    Router has NAT firewall too.

If I have a problem, I check with Search & Destroy.

BUT - I have never caught a virus on this set-up. (5 family machines)

    Please define a dubious website.
e.g.Facebook seems to be a regular source of infections.

    I didn't know that!

I just had an email from the webmaster of Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society's website, apparently their site was infected with something dodgy, from Russia or similar and that definitely isn't a dodgy website, but it is mainly frequently visited by older men :D some of us radio amateurs being mainly retired!

What I came here to say was whoever updates the FREE Antivirus Software Page on the main site do they think it would be a good idea to say get your PCTools Spyware Doctor from Google Pack as it was supposed to do a bit more than the normal free version according to those more knowledgeable than myself on the Micromart Forum

I wasn't sure where to post this info, so hopefully this OK

Macs can catch infections. Its a lot less likely, but still possible

I recently came across this programme when I was accessing an online banking site and have now downloaded it. It's free and gives another level of security when using online banking sites. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who uses it and their comments on it.

Thanks, needless to say... i don't get out much ;) Initially i just wanted a free firewall which wouldn't annoy me by popping up every 10 mins saying "do you want to allow this application".

Iptables you just specify the ports you wish to allow access in on and access out on. If i need to change them then i can easily.
