    I am currently using

    Eset Smart Security(Nod32 AV engine)
    Malwarebytes
    Windows Defender

and I prefer Firefox over IE, thats it.

Testing Microsoft Security Essentials on anther machine and its looks promising, very light install and when running.

I'm with you - using Eset & malwarebytes and have been very happy & problem free for a while now - after complete disaster with Norton just before renewal due.

My norton was up for renewal too. I wanted to ditch it from the minute I bought it. Let a couple of persistant trojans through, and had a few problems whilst running.

MSE is fast, and seems efficient. I wanted to try Commodo Internet Security as I like ttrying new products, but am happy with mine for now. I'll never say never though.

I use spybot search and destroy, and the windows firewall. That's it.
And my PC has no problems and has never needed reinstalling or fixing since purchase several years ago.

You don't need any of the more invasive stuff. The rules are simple:
    1) Never run a file from someone you don't know
    2) Read email in text, not HTML
    3) Do not visit dubious websites
    4) Do not download from piracy websites.
    5) Never install any toolbar or other crapware you don't google and research first.

    It's pretty much that simple.

Lets say for arguments sake a site you visit regularly is hacked and a nasty trojan or suchlike inserted so that everyone who views that page without proper protection gets infected

    What then?

    Lucky you. :T

I shall be sticking with what I've got however. As was stated above, a matter of personal choice.

    Do not visit dubious websites
    Please define a dubious website.
e.g.Facebook seems to be a regular source of infections.
    Move along, nothing to see.

    I laughed.

    6) Never trust a trusted source
    7) Do not trust anyone
    8) Look behind you at all times
    9) Wear a Tin Foil hat also

    Anything is possible.
