It would appear that there is a bug in the latest release(build 736) and judging by the reaction in various forums, Kaspersky have really shot themselves in the foot.
They are beta testing a fix and will no doubt release this ASAP.
There is a temporary fiddle-come-fix here that seems to speed things up a bit and it may cure your other problem.

Alternatively you could uninstall 2010 and reinstall 2009 but I reckon that the fix will be released soon due to sheer embarassment on their part.
Some of their customers are switching to Norton and reporting vast improvements all round. - That should make them focus their minds a bit more."It's nice to be important but more important to be nice"

Kaspersky released "patch b" yesterday which should address the slowdown - it does for me.
It will install as part of the regular database update without telling you so please read this as a whisper. You may have to reboot after the update.
To find out if it has been applied, right click the Kaspersky Icon in System Tray, select "About" and it should say Version 9.0.0.736 a,b.
Hope it fixes your problem Donnajunkie
In fairness to them, it didn't take them long to sort it though
PS - Just found this link

I have used Kaspersky but now use Eset Smart Security 4 and I find it miles better than Kaspersky. I also have Superantispyware installed and find this a great product as well.:pB&SC No. 298

Hi all
Can anyone direct me to a removal tool for F-secure internet security please? I need to remove it from my parent's PC but I'm not sure where to look for it as I can't see anything on their website.
BTW I've recently installed Kaspersky and am very happy with it after having struggled with McAfee for months.
Thanks for your help. - Just because I love this emoticon!0 -
BEWARE if renewing your Kaspersky .... received pop ups every time i logged on warning me that my kaspersky security was expiring in 14 days, 13 days, 12 days etc. finally renewed with 12 days to go and it appears that I have LOST those 12 days as my new contract expires 1 yr from renewal date and does not take account of the fact that I have renewed 12 days before my current contract expires. I have tried to contact Kaspersky to rectify this and have been passed from department to department with noone taking responsibility. Very poor customer service and fraudulent if you ask me.
How much did they charge you (if you don't mind me asking), as mine is due to expire shortly and this seems the easiest option.0 -
Oh, and as a decent freebie, MS Security Essentials is available against malware protection (with automatic updates too).

Would anyone know if this is any good?0 -

Build 736 is the latest version and you can upgrade free as it will use your current licence.
download version 9.0.0.736 from the Kaspersky Lab’s official site: http://support.kaspersky.com/kis2010?level=2
run the downloaded file (Build 9.0.0.736)
install the latest product version over the current version
restart your computer
perform a manual update
The Windows security messages will go once the update has been installed."It's nice to be important but more important to be nice"
