I've had problems since upgrading to AVG 9.0.
Been using AVG for years with no probs and upgraded to v.9.0 recently. Slowed everything right down. Replaced with Avast now. Much better.

Hey guys, been reading this thread with interest.

Am thinking of buying the Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. Found it for £16 on Amazon. Is it the best one around that you have to pay for?

I am doing a full system restore later on this evening, as pc won't boot up. Luckily, I back up. I have always had the freebie security ones, avast, ccleaner, spybot etc...but have had to do 2 complete system restores in the past 18 months. Not sure if its the hard drive, or a virus, but thought I might need a more complete security system for my HP pc. Thoughts appreciated.

Used Avast for years, and Malware bites is pretty good too. Never had any problems on my own PC or friends and families.

Just about to install Windows 7 so must have a good read up on what's best!

I use AVG Free edition anti virus and adware. I stick with windows firewall and use a strong WEP key for my wireless.

Don't fall into the trap that you have to pay for effective security, the free ones do the job just as well

That is entirely a matter a matter of opinion. I used AVG and had all sorts of problems with it. Now I use Sunbelt AV and Firewall and never had a problem. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Vipre is supposed to be pretty poor from what ive heard. Surely youd be better off paying for Kaspersky?

Well, I've used Vipre for a few years now and never had a problem. What have you heard about them? Anyway, Kaspersky is too slow and memory hogging.

An AV program has but one job to do. DETECT viruses etc and prevent them from doing harm
I believe Vipre isnt too great at that job

I've been using Kaspersky for about 6 years now. Works well and over that time has picked up a few nasties! I have found it doesnt slow the machine down noticably, definately no where near as much as McAfee or Norton or Fsecure.

Its also worth noting that the Kaspersky "engine" IE core software is rebranded and used in a few other Antivirus programmes. Proof that its a trusted reliable solution?
