  • Hi all, I've scanned through all 51 pages of this thread and might have missed it but can't see anyone having mentioned blocking unsuitable (i.e. !!!!!!) sites using Firefox? My teenage son also uses Google Chrome - any suggestions for that?

And is there anyway to do this in one go, I mean rather than wait till I find one and then block it, do this again for the next one and so on.

I had to laugh at the comment that no-one thinks their little darling is looking at this stuff! how true, and it's been a bit of a shock - although I think of myself as broadminded, some of the stuff was quite frankly revolting.
  • I use and recommend

    PCTOOLS FIREWALL
    PCTOOLS ANTIVIRUS

Recently my laptop has been very slow to log-off, shut-down and restart. Recently I installed AVG and ZoneAlarm firewall, could these be the issue?

    Thanks

These should not be a problem on their own, but ensure you have deleted any previous firewalls as they sometimes work against each other. So if you are running 2, delete one. Also if you have Windows Vista, this has a firewall installed, but you can swith it off, if you prefer Zone Alarm. If these are not the issues, you may have an overload of temprorary files etc. Try running C.cleaner, this is a great tool for getting rid of unwanted stuff. http://www.ccleaner.com/download
Forgot to mention that C.cleaner is free but they ask for dontaions, which you can make if you are loaded!

  • Vista Machine with Avira Antivirus (free), router with firewall, windows firewall in advanced mode, A2 antispyware (free) and WinPatrol....however, after reviewing everything, for the first time in my life I am considering an all in one solution of either Kapsersky or the recently so improved and light on resources Norton, which I never thought I would, however, I think an all in one solution will lighten resources and with young kids starting to use my machine I feel it is time for better security.

    I'd recommend Eset Smart Security.

Coincidence you said that. I'm with Norton now, and was going to use F-Secure. However, I may be using Kaspersky instead as the reviews are very good and you can get it half price at PC World at times.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.
