DD1 has got a job for when she graduates - yayy!!. I think it would really help her to give her a head start with understanding double entry bookkeeping if I try and teach her the basics over the summer so she doesn't struggle too much when she starts her training. (Though I have to say I was in my third year of my training contract before ANY of it clicked) Can anyone recommend a good textbook, please?

It was a looong time ago that I learnt double entry book keeping... but as I recall the two textbooks were by Frank Wood. I think it was Business Accounting that I used (there were two books to it... very useful as door stops :rotfl: but did teach me everything.) I did an Amazon search and came up with these.

Also... you are an excellent Mum!! :D

    Good Morning Matrix bods! :D

Had a really good day yesterday and managed to do loads and loads of work in the garden. There is still loads and loads to do, but at least I have made a start. It is looking better already. :) And I had a lot of fun out there as well, and I remembered how much I love gardening! To be honest, I haven't really done gardening for about 2 years for various reasons, including hubby kind of taking over. Because he is at work and is so busy, that isn't really an option for him at the moment, and because I am at home, it means I can get the garden to looking exactly how I want it to look! :) Which is fab.

I had a telephone conversation with an agent yesterday about a job at a city centre law firm in Nottingham who are looking for an accountant. They sent me the job spec, and although I am pretty confident I could do the job, they did not say anything about how much they are willing to pay for my services. So I have sent an email asking just that question!

Right. The plan for today is breakfast, garden, lunch, garden, shower, counsellor, dinner, TV time and bed. Not sure how much of that I can get done, but it is a plan! :D

Have a great day all, and positive vibes for everyone.

Struggling to get started today - rainy and gloomy. So off to make a big pot of fragrant tea to warm the cockles.

Got my list of three things to do to today - as per my TADA list on MFin3 so can't afford to let the day get away from me.

Anyone else up for the week long challenge?

I am up for a challenge. The books have to go and I haven't done any studying for a week.

Anyway - how is this about frugal weddings. I found this nice dress when browsing the net but it was discontinued. I got it from fleabuy for 32.- including postage - and it is brand new in my size. If it is meant, it is meant. Well it is not traditional wedding dress but should work. Now I just need to find knitting/crochet pattern for a lace bolero/shrug to go with it.

    Ah, this brings back memories...

I have to say it took years for it to click with me too...

...but after various books, this one worked for me: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ICB-Practical-Bookkeeping-Beginner-Intermediate/dp/1847107141/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337238682&sr=8-1

Marru - you should have said that you were getting married - I have dresses here (brand new, designer jobs) that may have fitted and you could have had one. I do have white and ivory wraps so if you want one you are welcome to have one (again brand new, never used). All this wedding stuff came from an auction that I attended 2 years' ago and the dresses were a welcome bonus at the bottom of the box. Thinking about lace boleros - I do happen to have a Ronald Joyce lace coat which you are welcome to have but it will need the attention of a good seamstress to turn it into a shrug.

Thanks for linky for Topcash doodah - I have constantly tried that link with them before to no avail and even posted on their facebook page so I have switched my allegances to quidco.

OOOH Frank Wood - that takes me back nearly 40 years (never did get consignment accounting) I could do a mean 5 column tax account, though by the time I qualified. Consolidations of 40 companies' tax entries on an A3 cash column ruled pad in PENCIL with nothing more sophisticated than a 10 digit calculator (which cost nearly a month's net salary when I started work and had batteries that lasted half a day if you forgot to turn your calculator off).

I'll get the Kaplan book as well, it looks very helpful. Thanks all

Morning All. This is what I love about here!:beer:We need and we ask and before long someone comes up with the answer.

So far have done BIL's cleaning, now about to tackle some things at home. I'm slowly working my way through the list of things that became outstanding/desperate whilst I was ill:eek: On:eek: that note things are improving a bit - fingers are not quite so swollen or painful, had loads of blood tested for rheumatology and should have appointment is a week or so. Slowley getting back on top of things and yesterday was the 1st day in 3 weeks I didn't need to have an afternoon nap:j
    Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942
    Buffer Zone 1; £84 -
    £2 saving plan:-

@robsmum - glad to hear that you are slowly mending - must admit that I am rather partial to afternoon naps and a 10 minute power nap works wonders for me (although if I am snuggly on the sofa it can turn into a longer nap).

Today I am letter writing, sending emails as I have been asked to introduce myself to a fellow FSB member with a view to doing a spot of work for them by way of helping each other out on an ad hoc basis. I also need to contact a speaker to see if he will come and speak at the business club in July or September - although he is based in Morpeth and we are based in Hagley (it might be a stretch too far).

I need to start planning my clear out and box packing - can't believe how much carp I have accummulated (where does it all come from?).

Marru - please can you PM me the details of your friendly removals expert?
