Hmmm, so it's official. My job is "at risk" of redundancy. Bah.
Sorry to hear that TMIF... unless of course you hate your job and you get a massive redundancy settlement...

Had to go to Mr T tonight - unscheduled fly by. Bought myself a bunch of flowers - £7.50 bouquet for 75p................ now I couldnt leave that:D Added to it a pretty bunch of yellow alestomerias (sp??) for 30p and they look lovely on the dining room table. OH will have a shock when he comes down in the morning;)

Oh TMIF that's pants - let us know what we can do - passes a cup of tea.

Crickett - well done on the healthier choice - especially when you know you had hit all your trigger points and you still didn't buy the snacky stuff.

Been up since 5am tweaking one of my revenue streams (after a very complex call with NYC last night) - but best to catch all the ideas before they get lost in the business of the day.

I have a feeling it is time to step it up a gear - things are flowing but I need more financial security so time to get better organised.

MrF has suggested I put an Alexa toolbar on the blog for some tracking stuff, but if I could beg a favour let me know on the blog what you like reading about and I will tweak it accordingly.

I know the weekend baking goes down a storm - and the "stuff in jars" always gets a lot of interest, but there is so much going on in my life that I'd like to know what you'd think would help the most.

Off to wake up some boys

I'm not massively fond of it, but it's fine... you probably know what I mean. As for redundancy - I guess it's a week per year, or whatever the official rules are - I doubt there'll be more... I've been there for nearly 3 years.
Oh TMIF that's pants - let us know what we can do - passes a cup of tea.
Ooo thanks - always time for a cuppa :) You can never really have enough of the stuff!

I don't know what to do yet - time for CV tweaking and job hunting I guess :) If they 'pick' me I'd finish on 31st July. Will keep an eye on the internet I think :)

Just the horrible period of uncertainty at the moment while people find out who's "on the list" so to speak.

...anyway, whatever happens is for the best isn't it. Sometimes nudges in the right direction are what people need to make a new start.

TMIF, if the actual redundancy doesn't happen until end July that suggests they have a 100 day consultation and the redundancies must be more than 30 people. If so they will have to appoint employee representatives unless there is a union doing that job already. There may be some room for negotiation on various points of the package especially if it is enhanced beyond basic statutory. For example if you have someone who has worked less than a complete number of years, a point that employers often concede is to round up rather than round down. It may be that it would cost them very little to continue to provide other non cash benefits for an extended period. That sort of thing is worth pushing for even if there is not much room for manoeuvre otherwise. Employers will usually concede something as it helps to demonstrate that they have done a proper consultation. So get on to your employee reps and see what is happening
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Check your contract TMIF! You need to know exactly what you are entitled to and there are people on the matrix who can help you interpret it if you have any concerns. As maryb says, employers will sometimes enhance these packages - for example I was given a retraining grant.

The consultation will be difficult and unpleasant - it always is as everyone is very stressed, so I suggest you find lots to occupy you away from work and try not to listen to or get involved in any rumour or speculation. Updating and polishing your CV and linkedin profile is no bad thing, nor is looking at what's out there. Even if you don't end up being made redundant you might find something fabulous :D I've been made redundant twice in the last 10 years and both times it has been a positive thing after the initial shock, so I'm sure things will work out for you.

MG - I love everything on the blog. The Free-I-Y stuff, is super great. But I love the cooking and baking too. Every so often you put a really insightful personal post. I read these but so often don't have anything intelligent to respond! But I do enjoy reading those posts too.

TMIF - that news is pants, as Greenbee has suggested - look at your contract as it should say in there what you are entitled to if you are made redundant. I think that if you are employed by a company then you get better treatment when you are made redundant than if you worked in higher education. Remember that it is not you that is being made redundant but the job - there may also be an opportunity for redeployment within the company as well. It was a huge shock when I was made redundant but I got over it and moved onto better things.

Today, is application day - I am chomping a frog as I have now worked out what I am going to say on the additional information part of the application for this union job. I have also re-read the guidance notes.

I had some news about the house last night - it would seem that the vendors are now playing silly beggars by not providing information requested and saying now that the bathroom fittings are staying e.g. bath, taps and toilet yet everything else will be ripped out (except the curtain rails and central heating) unless my parents pay extra:mad: The agents told mum and me, plus one of the executors told mum that the carpets and kitchen units were staying. Mum has told the solicitor that the offer was made to include the carpets and kitchen units and that an offer had been made for the white goods, an old sideboard and a spare bed. It would seem that the waterbutt is staying (I didnt know there was a water butt) and so is the dustbin - my initial reaction to the bin was great a bin that the council won't empty because the men won't lift it (it is a traditional black plastic bin) - all the bin lorries take wheelie bins. Mum has told the solicitor that if the vendors continue to mess about then she will make a further greatly reduced offer and if they continue then she will withdraw from the sale. One wonders what the vendors are thinking especially when this would be a cash purchase - surely a cash buyer is better than one that has a house to sell?
  • Hugs TMIF (((( ))))

Horace, it's astonishing that in a buyers' market the people selling the house you're after are being so capricious. I hope it all gets sorted out. Re my own house move, I'm visualising strongly that the buyers of my buyers' house get their mortgage confirmation. This will allow conclusion of all three parties' missives.

It's a beautiful day here, and I'm off to the local auction house. For once I'm not dropping stuff off. I'm going with a tape measure to look at a small drop leaf table that just might fit in my new kitchen diner. Exciting!
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

I've checked our intranet - it's one week per year (capped @ £430 per week) - so the statutory limit only. I do work in HE, it's a massive restructure, we've been expecting it, but living in denial.

I know it's the job, I am not offended. I don't even know if it's me yet...

I've been made redundant before (from my favourite job ever), and yes it did lead to better things.

As I said, I am confident I will find another job, somewhere, eventually, it's just the uncertainty I hate.

Thanks for your support :D x
