Wow, Horace. What a lowlife that woman was.
I only 'ration' the verbatim reporters because none of them live in Scotland, and have to travel up here. Two are needed for a day's work, as they take it in turns. That's 2 x their fee (curently £450 per person per day), plus 2 x two nights accommodation, taxis, train or air fares and subsistence. The charity I work for has to pay out then claim back, and if I did that too often it might create temporary cashflow issues!
There are local electronic notetakers, but they summarise what is said, and from past experience I know they don't understand the technicalties of the subject area I work in, can't summarise it and both they and I end up totally frustrated. At least if the verbatim reporters dont understand, they simply type in the nearest phonetic equivalent to what they hear and I usually get what it's meant to be!If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

I see where you are coming from now Groatie.
Yes, the woman was a lowlife and even worse the jobcentre knew she was a fraudster yet still encouraged me to come off the dole as they did others. Needless to say the poop hit the fan when we discovered she was a con artist - I made a formal complaint of bullying and coercion from my DEA and amazingly the file that was 2 inches thick of complaints and evidence mysteriously disappeared from the jobcentre office, however, my complaint was upheld and I got back pay on dole money. This happened when I was first on the dole. I am still awaiting payment and I still have the Islington Council ID card that I was issued and they kept asking for it to be returned (dunno why I had it in the first place it was probably another con but I was present when the card was issued) - they sent someone round to collect it and at the time hadn't long had eye surgery so I was pushed about by someone that I had 'worked' with. I told the council that they could have the card back when I got paid - needless to say I haven't heard from them since. We made the lowlife con woman famous by putting her on the BBC See Hear programme - not once but twice:D She is still working with disabled people and still working for Islington Council - I feel sure that the company she ran was a council project hence the need for a council ID card although the council have pleaded ignorance.
Tomorrow - I am finishing my CV and emailing it to the agency and I will make a start on the divorce paperwork, I am due to sign on and will get a letter from them about my jobseeker's allowance - I had a letter to say it had been awarded but I sent it to the council for my housing benefit and they kept hold of it. Once I have that then I can send the paperwork off and prove that I cannot pay the fees and will be asking for a Financial Clean Break after the divorce too.0 -
My combi microwave died on Tuesday evening, just a very gentle death but dead none the less:eek:Spent all day yesterday trying to find someone who could repair it:mad:no one will touch it as it's classed asa low value item. £150 is now low value- to me its priceless it has helped us reduce or food bills and our electricity bills. We lasted 2 dinner times watching our electriity monitor and are ordering a replacement tonight:eek:
It's like my hands have been cut off.
Oh I sympathise.................. my combination pobty ping went bang last week. I need it more for the summer as I have a solid fuel Aga which is 'off' between April and October so we really rely on it then. I did think we could last til the spring but 4 days in I was on the internet - bought one from Mr T in the end with money off and cashback still came in at just under £200:eek: but at least I can do my micro porridge in the morning:DBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Horace, poor you with your glaucoma that must have been terrifying to have pressure so high.
I have glaucoma with normal eye pressure - called, unsurprisingly, normal tension glaucoma - and it was only confirmed as glaucoma because they could see that there was damage to the optic nerve plus some blind spots in the left eye when I had a visual field test. My opthalmologist said they need two out of the three symptoms to diagnose glaucoma. So I think if someone has slightly raised pressure but no other sign of damage to the optic nerve and field test is normal they don't tend to diagnose glaucoma. When the pressure goes as high as yours that's obviously a different thing altogetherIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Utility room is spotless. Bathroom is spotless. Rest of the house is not
so I need to spend this evening pottering between tidying enough to really get the place clean tomorrow and doing the essential work that I should have done instead of cleaning. And either soak my feet or have a bath.

I am on a cleaning spree - cos the boys are off for a sleepover again and I DON'T have a hot date - but I do have a plan to get on the phone with a friend and sort out some blog niggles.
Trying to design a "Monthly Scorecard" - giving us marks of how close we are to achieving each goal ever month. But it needs to be so much simpler. Back to he drawing board.
