Dora What about Northern Ireland? Cheaper than Dublin, you have Belfast itsel, the titanic quarter and W5 which is great for kids, you could travel up the North Antrim Coast to see the Giants Causeway, Carrick-o-reed rope bridge (if you're brave!) Bushmills Whisky Distillery, on to Portrush which is the seaside holiday town.
Take a look!

Dora - if you are close to Liverpool how about N wales for half term - statics available or even premier inn type accomodation if you £500 budget is for everything. If not, then I am sure you could get a small cottage. I would suggest you locate yourself near Conwy - lots of castles, nature reserves, fab beaches, steam railways and eating places.A55 is a handy road to get you to places fairly quickly and painlesslyBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Trying to catch up with thread but it all moves too quick! The start to 2012 has so far been very testing - chimney fire, power cuts ( which caused damage to our PC), 2 deaths on same day ( expected but tragic ) which happened on DD2 birthday.A 200 mile round trip for a planned MRI scan (I have a benign brain tumour which I tend to forget about inbetween visits to hospital so the worry of waiting for the results always comes as a shock IYSWIM) Discovered on Friday car needs serious attention which wasnt planned for and I am now in bed again with what must be a bout of flu - dont know because cant say I have ever had flu before infact cant remember the last time I had a cold. Having dragged myself to the second funeral yesterday I am staying in bed today keeping the fluid levels topped up as I cant face eating and hoping this is the end to it. All my 'grand plan' ideas have so far been scuppered but I am just looking at it as being 2 weeks behind schedule and hopefully I will catch up soon.Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Hugs, Igamogam, that's a lot to be dealing with.
I hope you feel better soon.If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Dorastar, we did Amsterdam one Feb half term - pleasant but we were freezing.
London is great for free museums/sightseeing if wrapped up warm some of the Travelodge family rooms are good value. We travel by train off peak when you can get deals or megabus (very cheap travel)
Black Country Museum/Ironbridge/Cadburys World in West Midlands, and may get cheap hotels0 -
Brilliant, I have now got all my family holidays sorted for the next few years! Am going to put all suggestions on the table for dh, dd and I to discuss - she loves using the computer so she could find out about places to go near each option as she is harder to entertain than ds (who to be honest would be happy in a motorway service station watching cars zoom by)
Rebooting me today - church, cleaning, friend coming with cakes, maybe walk round park, tea, dishes, only the absolutely necessary school work, physio, book and bed. Sorted.Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
Emergency fund £1000/£1000

Dorastar - the beamish link got me thinking - NE might be nioce - you also have Alnwick Castle up there as I'm sure DD would be into Harry Potter - & there are lots of lovely service stations for DS
(If you do decide on Beamish - PM me - I might have something of use to you)
Igamogam - ((((hugs))))) - take care of yourselfDebts 07/12/2021
