Claire - words fail me. well ones I can say in public. The ones not to be used in front of those with a delicate condition are on the tip of my tongue. What a horrible, insensitive thing to say :(:(

That's why I have a real tree each year and don't keep anything in the attic! OH occasionally suggests putting stuff in the attic, and I tell him he can put his stuff in there, but nothing of mine is going, as I might need it when he isn't here. And if I don't need it, it can go!

I MUST go and do something instead of listening to the radio and surfing...

Disrespect is a deal breaker in our house - she knows there are consequences to her actions, so let her know that however upsetting she is being your "rules of the home" still apply.

Then early bath, get her in bed and enjoy a glass of wine:D

    This too shall pass

Claire big hugs and I'd say MG's advice applies as much to your DH as it does to children. Send him to the naughty stair. Joking aside when my kids have mean things said to them I tell them it says far more about the person saying them than the person they are said to.

Tenmah fingers crossed for your DD

Still here..........at this rate we will be leaving in the dark never mind arriving!!

Thanks for all your good wishes, and hugs back to those going through difficult times.

MG - I hear you when it comes to OH's. There are times when I wish I had one but then so many times when I am glad I don't :) I also agree that putting things in the loft can be a trial, and every year I seem to leave something Christmassy out - which then stays out all year! This year it was the Christmas lap trays we were using, so I will have to find a home for them in the garage until next year :o

Men can be such chumps at times Claire - remember the virtual shovel & the virtual patio there is a hole underneath it that is big enough for a chump:D

Hugs to those in need ((((( )))))).

I am not long back from parents who have told me that I must gain a monetary settlement from the marriage as well as furniture - £15K should do nicely:D I was expecting to prune trees with mum but we didnt instead I had a long chat with dad. They have seen a 2 bedroom centrally heated house for less than £100K that they want to buy - it will be in their names initially until the divorce is absolute and I am free from OH for ever and then it will be transferred to me. I have been to see the house from the outside and it looks quite tidy as do others in that bit of road - the road gets rougher the further down it you go though:( It has off street parking outside and was built in the 1950's and is a terrace - the interior looks amazing (having seen piccies on the estate agent's website). They figure it is better for me to have somewhere to live rent free rather than me have housing benefit and struggle to pay rent. I might drive up there in the day time to see what the area is like - there is a dodgy club nearby and a pub (but I shall visit neither) and there are a few local shops inc a Spar which will be good for emergencies. I might even arrange a viewing because I want to see what is out back. The house is closer to the Lickey Hills (great for walks) but further away from Northfield so it will take me about an hour to walk there instead of the 15 mins it takes now. It may mean that I have to change GPs too and I don't want to move because I like my GP (he is hot:o).

Came home with a sirloin steak, some frozen mince, a bag of spuds (from the huge sack that mum has in the garage) and a box of cakes - why do I always time my visit to coincide with baking day?

We have a plan as well - when the weather is warmer we will do a carboot because we have stuff to be rid of. I may yet sell some treasures because I now have a backlog of rent thanks to my stinky bank but I am not too bothered about selling them to be honest with you. A huge collection of antique carnival glass is not doing much sitting in my parents' loft when it can easily be sold.:D

I won't need to go shopping for food for a goodly while yet - my freezer is full to the brim:cool:

My hardtimes book shows me the following store cupboard essentials (two weeks' food supply for a family of 4):

2.5kg powdered milk (it can be stored for years)
    7kg flour
    1.75kg breakfast cereals
    1.75kg pasta or rice
0.5kg biscuits (crackers as a bread substitute)
    0.5kg sweet biscuits (not essential)
0.5kg other grains (oats, buckwheat, semolina, museli)
10-12kg legumes (dried beans and peas)
    2kg dried fruit and nuts
14-16kg tins: Tinned juices, tinned fruit, tinned veg and legumes
Up to 1kg seeds for sprouting
    2-2.5kg tinned fish or meat
4-4.5kg soups - tinned or packet
    Up to 1ltr vegetable oil
    and/or 1kg ghee
Others depending on taste & eating habits:
salt, pepper, sugar, dried herbs & spices, vinegar, sauces, condiments, mustard, soy sauce, other flavourings, baking powder, gluten etc. Yeast for making bread, coffee, tea, cocoa, drinking chocolate, herb teas, honey, spreads, peanut butter, jam, tahini etc
Perishables: depending on climate & space:
Eggs, onions, garlic, carrots, parsnips, other root crops, potatoes, pumpkins, mushrooms, lemons, apples, oranges, etc,

Could I ask what your 'Hard Times' book is?

I too am trying to build up a Armageddon store cupboard!!

There seem to be loads of people in need of Hugs so this is a

Am mulling over what my objectives should be in 2012. The main one is to become debt free and I'm making progress on that one.

Was listening to Radio yesterday and there was a lady who was talking about a wheel of life??? Where you draw a wheel with a hub and add spokes (suggested 8). Each spoke represented a part of your life e.g. money - career - health and so on. You then had to grade between 1 and 10 where you thought you were in achieving your desired outcomes in each area. This is supposed to help you focus on next steps and should inform your medium to long term goal setting. I was thinking about trying it but for some reason I feel very anxious about actually sitting down and looking at where I am - out of my comfort zone definatley! Has anyone ever heard about this method (all new to me)

Horace, take a look at the completed listings on ebay for antique carnival glass, some of it gets pretty good prices. Just a thought!!

How's about that for starters. I'll leave it to your imagination what combination of words that's made from ;)

As for attics/lofts etc......well isnt that what loft ladders were invented for? :rotfl:
