I tried to use the card abroad, the 'do not honour' message was from the machine that was in the hotel. I informed citibank that I would be away, to make sure I would not have any issues or embarressment, what a waste of time that was! The card has been fine since I have returned on monday.
    I would still ring citi
and ask them why it wouldn't work aboard,
so that you know for next time,
I would be mad as well,
but ask them to explain why

  • Can I ask a few questions?

    1. I have just started a DMP, am I likely to manage to get this account? y credit rating is diabolical.
    2. Do you get an instant online decision?
    3. What ID etc do you need to send them?
    4. Has the Quidco offer finished?

Any help would be appreciated. I need a new joint bank account as I want to go after Hellifax for my bank charges.

1- There is no guarantee that you will be accepted,

2- You get a decision through the post with about 10 days

3- I sent Council tax bill, Bank Statements, Copy of driving licence and a copy of passport. I did send all this as I did not have a cheque book.

4- Quidco offer has finished now

Hope that helps and keep us posted :money:

you have to send a cheque to open the account with,
if you haven't got a cheque,
    send them a covering letter,

    dear sir/madam
I do not have a cheque book,
I have sent you an additional form of ID instead,
    hope this is convenient,
    regards
    mr/mrs ******

    I sent

    council tax bill
    bank statement
    phone bill
    gas bill
    electric bill

    just incase.

everything goes in prepaid envelopes that they send you,
usually takes about a week to get ID's back
then 15 working days to hear back
from what I have heard on here
those who ring and ask if they have been declined
    are declined
those who sit and wait for the post man
    get an account,
that's what seems to be the pattern
if you go to the start of this thread,
    some got told quite quickly,
    me included,
    but lately
people have had to wait about 15-20 working days,
so I guess its just pot luck really
    but apply for it
    they can only say
    yes or no
    its worth a try
    hope this helps
    cw
    best wishes

    ok
so what's the difference between a current account and a basic account,
    is it just the cards,
    and the cheque book,
because it seems to me that for anyone to get a decent interest,
you'd have to have an awful lot of money in the bank at the end of the month,
not that I don't like my citi account,
it just seems to me that it doesn't seem to be that much different from the basic's,
excepting the card's and cheque book,
    just a thought of mine,

  • I am surprised to see such praise for Citibank.
I have been horribly dissapointed with them.
    1) Mysterious small payments from my account that need to be queried, discovered to be errors and then refunded.
    2) Took eight months for a cheque to be processed. No satisfactory explanation
    3) Regular banking errors that need to be chased up or are randomly corrected without warning making it difficult to track finances.
    4) Overseas Call centre staff do not have sufficient expertise to handle queries that are not straightforward.
    5) Do not respond to messages within 2 days as stated.
    6) General all round poor service
    5) Total loss of confidence that my account and funds are being handled correctly
    6) Lloyds TSB staff in my area had no idea how to process funds paid into Citibank account and were unaware of their relationship to Citibank

In contrast, the Nationwide are fantastic. Proper human beings. UK call centre, helpful happy looking branch staff.
  • I've just had my post and i have been turned down for a Citibank account :( They said it was because I didn't achieve their minimum credit score requirement. Feel so ashamed, my credit history but be sooo poor :(

don't be your not the first and you wont be the last,
have you tried to sort out your credit score,
    try doing this first
    then re-apply,
    my son was declined,
as he doesn't have a credit score,
    he's only 21,
oh to be that young again,
would we make the same mistake's,
anyway they told him to re-apply in 6 month's, that was in january-february 07,
I would try to sort your credit out and see what is stopping things
    then re-apply in june-july time,

I think that they have had a promotional push, relaxing the criteria, prior to the change to the monthly charge account.

They may have reached their quota now, and reverted back to normal credit scoring techniques.

Imagine if, say they managed to get 5000 new accounts, of which 60% stayed on the fee charging account, either through choice, or by simply not bothering to change it, that would make them £30,000 a month, from just new customers!

Call me synical if you wish, but they are a business at the end of the day!
    10 1p's are better than no 10p's !!!
