The letter came with a freepost envelope and asks if I could return my cheque book and card as soon as possible. Well I'm sorry - they can bloody well wait until 7 April.

    I am angry.

I have deposited between £800 and £1400 every month. The furthest I have been overdrawn is £276 and my limit is £300. I have written 5 cheques and none have bounced - nor any direct debits or standing orders. I have two savings accounts as well. I recently opened a Monthly Savings account which had an interest rate of 10% but one condition of this account is to make deposits via Standing Order from my HSBC current account. I also took out the Bank Account Plus for a packaged fee of £6.47 a month.

Yet for all this they just decided to close my account for no reason. Thank God I opened a Citibank account (admittedly for the £50 cashback) which came with a full Visa debit card.

Yesterday I had to write about 10 letters to inform the people who pay me money of my new bank details, to ask HSBC for a list of my DDs and SOs and to ask HSBC to close my monthly savings account.

They are a absolute joke, I cant believe they think they can get away with treating a loyal customer like that. I hope that you take this alot further. I would start by writing to there HO asking why they are closing your account? I would also consider contacting the finical ombudsman and make an official complaint about your bank. keep us all updated.

Glad you have the Citi account to use.

You can pay in money or cheques into your citi account through any Lloyds bank branches by using the counter service.

You don't have to pay cheques in to lloyds that is just an option, you can send cheques with a payin slip to Citibank. I assume they are linked as you can use LTSB to pay in cheques.

thought you might be interested to see this:

Citigroup is planning to open a series of Egg branches on the high street, following its recent GBP575 million acquisition of the UK online banking firm from Prudential, according to Marketing Week.

Surinder Singh, Citi UK consumer group's chief executive, cited in Marketing Week, said that the new Egg-branded branches would increase Citi's UK high street network, as well as adding current account and wealth management products to Egg's portfolio.

I just hope that you can use the egg branches for your citi accounts then.

Did anyone get their £50 from Quidco credited to their Citibank account? Mine says it was tracked in December and I still haven't received it yet.

I think that it will be very likely, as Egg deals in loans and credit cards but does not have a banking element at the moment. Currently Citibank have a deal with Lloyds for paying in, as you know, but I would guess it is likely that they will open a new Egg current account as Egg has good brand recognition in the UK and Citibank does not - but as it would be wholly owned by Citibank it would be extraordinary if they did not use the branches for services for Citibank and Egg.
