New Vodafone Broadband & homephone package

  • As a Vodafone mobile customer, I've been sent the details of this offer. Thanks for the feedback on here - I have decided to go for it. 2 questions though :

Firstly, a chicken & egg situation - should I sign up for VF first, then cancel with BT, or vice versa? Don't want to be left with no BB if BT cut me off immediately and there's a waiting period to connect to VF. But I do realise I will need a MAC code from BT to pass on.

Secondly, is £25 for a wireless router a good deal, and is the one they offer worth it? I don't currently have wireless but, as we run a guest house, it would be a nice added extra for the guests.

    Cheers!

    Hi Harry

I first of all phoned my old ISP (Virgin) for a MAC. As soon as I got it registered with Vodafone. My old BB stopped when VF started. I would check with your ISP how yours works when you ask for a MAC, to ensure a continuous service

I didnt think £25 wireless router was a good deal really. Main reason being its a router not a modem/router so you need too devices. You can grab good second hand wireless modem/router off ebay for £25 -£40. I stuck with my old wireless router. Depends how much space you have really.

  • It is actually a modem router.
Provided you have a ethernet card in your computer, then it simply plugs into there.
The router should be pre-configured so it really should be as easy as plug and play.

Netgear wireless ADSL router – DG834G
Just £25 to upgrade to this router when you place your initial order for Vodafone At Home
Easily share your broadband connection with your other computers.
Plugs directly into your ADSL line
    Small in size
5 in 1: Modem, router, firewall, 4-port switch & wireless access point
  • Sorry My Mistake

  • Hi Guys
I've found this forum extremely useful.
Has anyone on Vodafone Broadband gone to thinkboradband to check the speed of their connection?
If someone could post their results or a link to them it would be really helpful (especially if you live around NW London!!!)
    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

Also I download a fair bit, around 30-40 Gig per month, I'm currenly with Zen, paying £35/month for the privelige, plus £11 to BT. Vodafone claim 'unlimited downloads' but they do operate a fair usage policy, they reassured me that this would be fine, has anyone been cut off/had speeds downgraded whilst downloading?

Another point, I spoke to Vodafone yesterday regarding the cooling off period, apparently the one month cooling off period starts on the date you apply for broadband NOT the date on which you go live online. They told me at present activation will take around 2 weeks, so in real terms you have 2 weeks to determine iff you wish to stay with them for the next 18 months. They allow one move of address/location for free as well.

    Thanks a lot!

Has anyone seen or tried the new Vodafone at home package. For existing Vodafone pay monthly customers - £25 per month, includes BT line rental, Broadband + free anytime home phone calls to 01 or 02 numbers, Mobile & international & 045, 0870 numbers pretty good prices too.

can't see where it includes mob, int, 08 numbers ..

If you download 30-40 gigs a month, then i could not see Vodafone allowing you to download this amount month on month as it is not sustainable.
You only have to look at the complaints with Orange, Talk Talk and Pipex throttling speeds and ports, especially P2P.

Its okay at first whilst they build their customer base, but as more people sign up using a large bandwidth every month then eventually something has to give and it is usually slower speeds or blocking p2p.

In a way its the companies own fault for advertising "Unlimited" use subject to fair use policy and then refuse to tell you what the fair use policy is.

Things are all rosy at the moment with Vodafone at home, but will it be in 6 - 9months time once the heavy downloaders are sucking up the bandwidth?
Well only time will tell, and an 18 month contract is a long time if they start restricting your bandwidth.

You are the voice of reason, Sir!
You really do get what you pay for with these ISP's (or do you?)
Zen is pretty unbeatable for reliability and service. I just resent paying BT the £11 for 'line rental'! I'm happy to pay the ISP a premium for good service.
  • Can anyone who is using Vodafone at Home please give me an update on how they are finding the service.

Also, do they get in touch with BT to switch the landline service or is this down to me to sort out?

Any feedback on the service is welcome, let me know how your finding it as I'm considering switching.

    Many Thanks!

I have now had Vb for nearly 4 weeks and so far I am really pleased with the service , speed & support. It has not 'gone down' once , it is much faster than my previous NTL freedom - especially noticeable when listening to live football commentary. The support staff are excellent. vodafone organise to take over the line from BT but I advise you to phone & cancel BT contract giving them as much notice as possible. I got a windfall return of £67 from BT !
It is essential to formally terminate contract with existing broadband provider as some have 14 - 28 days in the small print. I had a lot of trouble with NTL as they cut off my service as soon as MAC code was sent - should not do this as I was still paying them - deliberately - to try to avoid a break in service. I did get it back after a lot of expensive arguing on phone at a price - 0845 no.
I just hope Vodafone do not become too popular as I fear situation as painted by another forum member - slower speeds, restriction in downloads, poor support. All we can do is make most of it while it lasts - certainly saved me a lot of money already - cheaper mobile calls free anytime calls, cheaper international calls and better broadband.
