I sent a letter to Alliance and Leicester regarding the £295 charge I had to pay when exiting my mortgage, I included the interest taking it up to £330. Just over two weeks later I got a cheque in the post for £210 which is more than I expected to receive!!!! Unfortunately two days before I received the cheque I sent them a snotty letter asking why they hadn't responded to meHSBC Unsecured Loan current total £11,921, Amazon Credit Card £355 (will be cleared in March 2009)

Thanks.
When I got my mortgage with them in August 03, they stated £99.He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Have received two cheques from C&G, one for £130.93, including interest, from my original letter to them requesting a refund, and then a second for £25 when I rang and said that wasnt enough! Result! that brings my mortgage exit fee down to a much more reasonable figure of £75.
After my sucess my boyfriend decided to ring Royal Bank of Scotland, they immediately offered him £150 and after a few minutes haggling also received £9 interest.
Also sucessfully reclaimed bank charges for my son from A&L but that was not so easy, we had got to the stage of filing a small courts claim before they paid up, and now they have closed his bank account.:T
thank you martin, keep up the good work.0 -
you may have been unfortunate and your letter got lost. I have had no problem, sent the standard letter and they refunded me £130.93 which included interest then I rang to say this wasnt enough and they sent me another for £25!
It may be worth ringing their customer service dept. they are very good.

I sent mine on the 7th March. Should I send another? Or wait a bit?
Well done for getting refund I hope I am successful - it will go straight into paying off cc.0 -
Hi. We applied after being prompted by Martin and using his pro-forma letter. Though we did not think we would be successful, we have now received a letter from Halifax offering us £115.00 as a gesture of goodwill! Don't quite know what that means in this case, but we have accepted it. Our mortgage was paid off over 6 years ago and we struggled to find the relevant paperwork, so we are quite happy with the outcome.
Thanks Martin. Another success from you.0 -
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if I should be grateful or not. I wrote to Northern Rock claiming back 2 MEAFs from 2003 and 2005. Below are quoted extracts from their reply and offer.
"When a customer chooses to redeem their mortgage, several admin tasks need to take place and fees charged. The discharge of Mortgage fee is one of these. We remain satisfied that this charge continues to be fair, appropriate, and clearly communicated to customers.
From Jan 2007 customers will now pay the fee that applied when their loan originally started. As a result. I have arranged to refund the difference between the amount that we charged you and the fee that applied when this mortgage was initiated.
So I can send you a cheque for £105.....etc.
FEE TO BE CHARGED FEE CHARGED REFUND DIFFERENCE
£135 £165 £30
£175 £250 £75
Total
£105
Sorry about the length but wanted to give full facts, can anyone tell me if I should take their offer or should they be refunding more. Thanks for any help.

Today I got a letter with a nice fat cheque for 285 pounds!!!
Cheers Martin, one for the consumer.:money:
(PS also got 3,500 back a couple of months ago on an endowment policy mis-selling through one of Martins previous campaigns, so double joy) :j0 -
