Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

Hi,
I switched mortgage from the C&G in May 05 and had not kept any contract information so, using a hybrid form of Martin's template letter, I requested a refund - I had been charged £225 MEAF and referred to their charge of £50 used only 5 years ago - and I asked for interest! I was advised that my contract had stated £100 fee and received a cheque for the difference, £125 + £11.00 interest also. Many thanks!! :j0 -
Sent the letter off on Monday 2nd April - by return of post got a letter to say C&G will be sending me a cheque for £131.91 which includes interest. The contract said I should pay £100 and they charged me £225. Can't believe that for the price of a stamp I got £131 in 3 days!!!0

Mine was posted (to C&G)on the 7th March and I have heard nothing yet.

Our previous 3 year mortgage was with the Abbey which we closed in 2005.
After reading your article we used your template and sent it off on 3 March 2007. We were charged £225 at exit stage but we didn't have the original figure. We used your guidance table and requested a repayment of £140. Within a fortnight we were issued a form to complete. Last week we received a cheque for £130 thanks to your article.0 -
I was charged £195 by Bristol and West but their booklet states £100 + £50 admin fee.
They have written back and offered us the £45 difference, which i'll be taking!!0 -
As a regular reader of the website, I was intrigued by the advice regarding mortgage exit fees and thought I would take Martins advice and write to Alliance & Leicester who provided my mortgage upto May 2005. Didn't think I would really get anywhere but then this morning, I received a nice cheque for £210. Thanks Martin!0

I wrote 1 letter to my Building Society asking for them to check on the amount that was charged for exiting my mortgage, after waiting 3 weeks had a reply stating that when the mortgage was taken out the cost was £10 I had been charged £125 so they are going to refund £115! Thanks MSE0

I had a mortgage with the Skipton for eight-and-a half years. As a result I couldn't find any documentation stating the MEAF when I took out the loan, so I doctored Martin's template letter to claim the whole £175 charge back.
They wrote back within a week stating the original fee was £45 and enclosing a cheque for £130. Result!0 -
Just got a cheque for £126 :j (difference between the original £99, and the £225 I paid last year) from Abbey. Easy process - simple form and cheque within 2 weeks.

I contacted Abbey having switched mortgage from them 4 years ago. We had the mortgage with them for 4 years. They sent me a form to fill in with the mortgage details as they no longer had me on the system. A week later, I had a cheque for £14.00 being the difference between £99 we paid and the £85.00 as stated in the contract. Not a huge sum but still chuffed with my success! Thanks, Martin!!0
