  • After reading the articles, I made 1 phonecall to A&L......
Within 7 days, I received a holding letter from them then, a couple of weeks later......
I received a settlement letter from them containing a cheque for £120 !!

    success !!

thanks to Martin & his team
  • Thank you so much for this advice. I redeemed my mortgage with the Kent Reliance last autumn, paid the £150 admin fee and thought no more of it. Sent a letter to KRBS last week, asking them to reconsider the charge they had made. 2 days later, received a reply and a cheque for £100. What a result! As other posters have commented, it just has to be worth the 10 minutes and the cost of a stamp.

Another success! Cheque received for £140 from the Abbey this morning (difference between £85 quoted on mortgage paperwork and £225 actually charged)

As per other posters - a 2 minute phone call, fill in the most basic details on a form and hey presto.

Would never have pursued without this website.

    Many, many thanks....

Just got off the phone from a five minute conversation with Halifax on the number I got from your website.

They are refunding £155 of the £175 fees they charged me when I moved house and switched providers. Not only would I not have known about this without you, but I wouldn't have known how to go about it. It was painless. Thanks again!!!!!!

  • Telephoned Halifax regarding a remortgage I carried out 2 years ago and as previously mentioned by others, they have a dedicated helpline just for this purpose. Spoke to 2 extremely helpful and friendly staff from Northern Ireland and I soon had a cheque in the post for £40 - was very impressed as i could no longer find my Roll Number, did not know how much i had been charged or what my original contract had said and I did not have the exact dates of the transaction but they just looked me up on the computer and told me how much I was due. The money is not going to set the heather on fire but £40 is £40 and is better off in my pocket!

I also tried to find out about a remortgage I did 6 years ago from Bank of Scotland to Halifax but unfortunately they are not able to help even although Halifax and BOS are now as one. To save time ( I ended up phoning around lots of different numbers and kept getting put through to other departments who all said they could not help me), if you had a BOS mortgage and it was an account number and not a Roll number beginning with a letter then it was classed as a Branch mortgage and the number to dial for help is 0845 1241366. They were able to find some of my details but said they would have to investigate further and i would hear from them within the next 28 days.......fingers crossed!! Hope this helps!!

I see all these "No Win No Fee" companies starting to cash in on this which is ridiculous daylight robbery as it is so easy to do yourself.

This is the first time i have posted anything so hopefully it went well!!;)

From my first phone call to them, to getting a letter and cheque for £135 was 10 days (and over the long Bank Holiday too!), so "Well Done" to A&L for processing my claim efficiently (even if they shouldn't have had my money in the first place!!).

Am now talking to the rest of out family to identify who else is due a refund.

    Well pleased. Thank you.

I had a mortgage with my ex husband a few years back..... We remortgaged and sold up when we split in 2002..... I watched Martin (yummy!) on GMTV a while back, logged on to this site and decided to give it a go reclaiming the exit fees.....Wrote letter to C&G who replied rather promptly, expressing their excitement that they were pleased to tell me they were going to refund me all of £12.40!! whoopee!! I think not!!...... I replied basically saying 'please do not insult my intelligence' and demanded the full £192.00...... I am just waiting to hear back so fingers crossed!! .....I would give it a go at reclaiming bank charges as accumulated hundreds in the past few years but went bankcrupt in 2004 (was discharged the following June), so thought it would be pushing my luck claiming these too!!........Fab site by the way!!

  • :j  Just to say thankyou to Martin for your excellent site-I got a cheque from Yorkshire Building Society,(where I previously held a mortgage) for £125.80p after one phone call. After alerting several of my friends to the the many joys of what I like to call "Meafing"(a joyful yet uncomplicated sport!),they too have been able to claim back several hundred pounds, which in turn has meant several free beers for me(which,of course I have drunk in your honour,Martin!)so thanks again for your information and keep up the good work!!:T

That really is horrible to read in the original colour and font!

I don't know why you think C&G were insulting your intelligence. Most lenders had hardly increased their MEAFs in many years by 2002, and it's quite feasible that £10 (plus interest) is exactly the right refund. There's no logical reason at all why they should refund the full £192.

Quoting my original post (from 07-03-2007)
as its been over a month now and no sign of any cheque. They did say it would take up to 30 days so has anyone else had payment after claiming at the same time?
Another phone call later I found out that they had sent the cheque to another address in my street despite them confirming the address as part of the security procedure. That ones been zapped and another one is on its way now. Hopefully to the right address this time :)
