I have just written a second letter to C & G as my first one either got lost in post or has been deliberately ignored or it could be they are so swamped with MSE'ers claiming back. Anyway lets hope this one gets a response.
I shall keep you posted.0 -
I switched my mortgage from Mortgage Express 2 years ago and was charged £235.00 (£175 redemption fee and £60 deeds release fee).
I sent a letter 4 days ago requesting a refund of the difference of the original agreed fee (£80). I received a reply this morning, offering me a refund! The letter back was surprisingly polite (I thought they'd be very snippy about it) and offered to send me a cheque in the next few days for £130.
I may quibble and ask why they aren't sending me £155 (235 less 80), but I may just take the money and run....Result, thanks Martin!0 -

About to switch from MORTGAGE TRUST who wanted to apply:
£150 sealing fee (original £75)
£88 deed release fee (original £35)
some inflation rate over 7 years eh?
Anyway one letter and charges are back to original, so £125 quid odd stays in MY pocket.
The annoying thing is if I hadn't asked they would have happily pocketed the extra without owning up. To me its exactly like a shop owner sneekily double scanning something on the checkout, if he gets away with it he keeps your money, if he gets caught - "oops! sorry it was an accident of course" and gives it back. Unbelievable behaviour from a bank.
How long had you been with mortgage trust? I am having a similar battle with them at the moment.0 -
oops I am just waiting to hear from the Mortgage Trust too. They were not very forthcoming on the phone and at first denied any need to comply with the FSA ruling. Then they asked me to put my complaint in writing - which I have done. If I have to hold my breath much longer though I might just burst.0

It took exactly one week after writing a letter to Nationwide (letter sent 3rd April so the week included both Good Friday and Easter Monday Bank Holidays) for me to receive a cheque for £90 - refund in full for MEAF charged when I remortgaged. I was impressed with the speed never mind the ease at which I managed to part them of the money :-)
I then contacted Alliance and Leicester by phone, very quickly had a complaint raised, and within 10 days had a cheque for £220 in my hands - again, a hassle-free refund.
Thanks again, Martin, for highlighting this issue.0 -

I have written to Northern Rock about getting a refund of the MEAF have had a reply. Northern Rock say that back in 2003 they had 2 fees, a sealing fee called a Discharge of Mortgage fee and a Despatch of Title DEEDS fee which I would have been charged. They also say that these 2 fees have since been amalgamated and called the Discharge of Mortage fee.
Please can anyone tell me if this is correct or are Northern Rock just trying to keep refunds paid out down????
Thanks
