  • Awesome! I made a three minute phonecall to RBOS regarding a mortgage I had with them 4 years ago and got a £160 refund!
Portman seemed annoyed that I had contacted them and requested a letter (now sent) and Brittania will reply within 5 days.

    Martin is the man!!

    Thankyou thankyou thankyou

  • Mortgage was with Halifax MSL, taken out in 1997, then it became Birmingham Midshires because they reorganised internally. Redeemed the mortgage January 2007 and was charged £150 for the privelege.
Called the Halifax number given by Martin, was put through to B'ham Midshires, gave them the reference number, they confirmed there was no exit fee in 1997, said I'd be due a refund of the £150 and they'd send a form for me to claim this...

    Looks like a result!

Thanks for letting us all know about this, Martin.

Rang them this pm and, despite not having my mortgage account details for the property I sold back in November 2005, they were able to find my details and have told me to submit request in writing which I have done (and posted), just hope that I can reclaim fees without my ex having to sign the form!

well, got my hopes up that i'd get a refund easily after the fsa ruling. contacted halifax about the bank of scotland mortgage i had. halifax man very positive (good news if you're a real halifax customer, i'm sure!), but the bank of scotland man i was transferred to, while wonderfully polite & helpful, did say bank of scotland hasn't paid out at all as meafs were always stated on original mortgage offer. eventually had to go into the loft, dig out all the paperwork & on having a good look discovered that despite being b*****ds in every other way, the bank of scotland originally said they would charge £50 & then only charged £50!!!!!!!!!!!

not fair! i could've sworn i paid them more! never mind, at least they weren't money-grabbing whatsits on that occasion!
  • wrote to C&G on saturday regarding a overcharged amount of £175...got a responce today (thursday) said sorry and they would refund me the full amount + interest................well happy
  • Hi

I know others have asked but i do not seem to be able to find the answer.
We are with Abbey and have been for 13 years, looking for a better deal and have got my settlement figure but have a charge of £225 admin fee. Does anybody know if i call them and dispute it will i have to pay it, can i claim it back after changing or do i have to pay it?
    Any advice appreciated.
Does anybody know if i were to call them and qoute the deal i have been offered with my bank the Halifax they are likely to match it. Abbey offered me a fixed rat of 6% but Halifax offered 5.89% not much difference but every little helps.

    Thanks

Having disposed of all correspondence relating to old mortgages, I sent off more in hope than confidence, template letters to Progressive Building Society and Abbey National asking for help.

Six days later Progressive replied, along with a cheque for £80.

Hope Abbey National are as good to deal with.

    Thanks yet again, Martin

Is it really worth you remortgaging to save 0.11%, given the costs of moving the mortgage?

In any case, you will have to pay the redemption amount stated and then claim back anything you are due.
  • C & G paid up £195.00 within a week of sending the letter. Thanks to all concerned.
