Wow!! I can't quite believe how easy it was to get back over £200. One 30 second, free phone call and the Woolwich are paying into my bank £215.63. Don't miss out on this one folks! :j0

A two minute call to Halifax and I'm promised a cheque for £175!
It's just ironic that after 8 years with them, this is the most impressive service they've ever given us - 2 months after we moved!

I have just called C&G re the exit fee - I was charged £225 not £50 as on the original advance BUT they are saying that as we had a top up on the mortgage the fee stands. The top ups were done over the phone and this was not mentioned at any time....
I have sent the letter anyway and will wait to hear from them....any tips?0 -
They are right in principle, holdenpack. I'm surprised that you were able to take a further advance without any documentation in writing?0

Recently changed from RBS to Lloyds TSB. I rang them because they made the 'error' of keeping my direct debit in place and took the money on 1.3.7! Cheeky devils.
Anyway.... after clearing that issue up with them, asked about the money. I was told to refer to the change document at time I changed mortgage. I couldnt find anything on it about changes for exiting early. So they are having to investigate originals.
Charged...£225
Paperwork should have said charge was £100
Being paid in my account £125
If they find it wasnt stated on my change document, as i insist I'll get the full amount!!!! They also said due to the number of enquiries it is taking up to 10 days for the redemptions dept to deal with queries
Thats from a mortgage starting in August 05 btw!!!!!!Money makes the world go round! Keep spending!!0 -
Hi,
I was charged £180 Admin fee when i payed my mortgage off early. Phoned the number provided. Was told i shouldn't have payed the £180 admin charge. They're now sending me a cheque for £206.79p (£180 + interest). If you had a Mortgage with lloyds or C&G, PHONE THEM NOW!!!! You've nothing to lose! http://img.moneysavingexpert.com/smilies/sport-smiley-001.gif

I re-mortgaged at the end of last year, wasn't sure what my MEAF was so I rang the special Barclays/Woolwich freephone number. The girl immediately told me I was due £180 plus interest. I didn't even have to ask for it!! All I did was quote my old mortgage number and address etc.
I'm totally over the moon. It took me less than 10 mins to read this article, then ring the Woolwich, and they are going to put the credit into my account.
Thankyou so much0 -
Me too! Just phoned Halifax and spoke to a very helpful lady, I gave her my account number, she looked it up and bobsyeruncle, £100!! Fantastic! Thanks Martin. Now I'm trying Sainsburys Bank (Bank of Scotland I think) for the mortgage before that one!!:rotfl:0

Success Abbey
£160
We started our mortgage with the Abbey in 1999, I have no idea what the exit fee would have been , but having read this forum , reckon it was £99. We closed our mortgage in 2005 , used L&C for a better deal, and I wrote a letter to Abbey on 24th Feb 2007 asking for money back. They wrote asking me to fill out a form, which we did, and this morning we got a cheque for £160I am so pleased. Thanks to everyone on this site who gave me the courage to ask , why cant they be like this for the bank charges???0
