I sold my flat in October - paid mortage off in full. Phoned Halifax today on number provided by mse. All I needed was my mortgage roll number. Took about 3 minutes - they are sending me a cheque for £100. No form filling - brilliant
  • I wrote to the Alliance & Leicester about 3 weeks ago re the exit fess, and have just received a cheque for £135 which was the difference between the original exit fee and the one when I left them. Not bad for the price of a stamp. Thanks. I had kept all the old paperwork which made it easier.

    Thanks Martin,

Received a cheque for £145 from Alliance and Leicester today, and Halifax said my £35 is on its way too. Very grateful to you, going to put it towards my holiday in Cornwall Easter. Extra pasties and cream teas !!!!!

After reading this site I wrote to Abbey on 12th Feb this year seeking a £126 refund on the £225 Meaf i was charged in dec '06(£99 was published price when i started mortgage). They sent me a simple form to fill in as they required more details. 7th march i recieved a cheque for £126. 30 mins + 2 stamps. It was that simple. Thank you Money saving expert!

Called Mortgage Trust (0800550551) about a mortgage i had with Britannic Money back in 02/03. They quoted something about the loans before October 2004 being unregulated therefore they weren't obliged to pay up. Anyway, she said if I wrote a letter detailing the mortgage they were reviewing each case. I asked her if they were paying the difference in the fees and without commiting herself she more or less said 'yes'.

PS. I didn't have the mortgage account number, just address of property, mortgage holder names and approx dates, which she said was fine. Fingers crossed.

May I ask what amount you are claiming back ? I too had a mortgage with BM that I redeemed in 2002 but cannot find what the figures quoted for charges were at that point in time. Do you know ? I know I paid out £225.

    TIA

    Whoooo Thanks Martin

I have just rang Halifax, we redeemed a mortgage with them a few weeks ago and they are sending me a cheque within the next 28 days.

Next i rang West Bromwich building society and they have said i need to write to them so i will be using your template for that, and then next i rang Abbey and they are sending me out a form to fill in.

I don't know I'm afraid. They said they'd check their records and refund the difference. In the letter I just said it was unlawful that the fees were increased from the original quoted amount to £225 (£150 Redemption Sealing Fee + £75 deeds release fee). Hope that's enough to get some money back.
