Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

My husband was always a sceptic about this site, but after watching 'It Pays to Watch' and seeing how easily the 'guinea pigs' reclaimed their mortgage exit fees, he he was persuaded to give it a go. One quick phone call (approximately four minutes long) later and we are now looking forward to a refund of £100 - result! And yes, he has now signed up for the weekly e-mail and become a convert! :j
I'd urge everyone who might be affected to give it a try.0 -
I've been meaning to sort out my fees ever since I started getting Martin's email and finally took action after watching the first of his tv shows. I'm on my 4th mortgage lender in 14 years so just thought I'd write to each of the previous 3 and see what happened. So, Halifax mortgage 1992-1998 - no fees due back as they charged the original price, not surprised as it ws before they started really going up but worth checking. Next, Alliance and Leicester mortgage 1998-2000 £15 back. Finally Northern Rock 2000-2006 £100 back. While not as much as some people have been getting back it's still money I wouldn't have without Martin prompting me to try and reclaim and has helped with that post-Christmas credit card bill.Every penny's a prisoner

I took out a mortgage with Abbey in Oct 2001 and paid it off in full in June 2005. Was charged £225 at the time. Phoned Abbey a couple of weeks ago and was sent a basic 1 page form to complete and return. The phone call and form only took a couple of minutes each. Within a week of returning my form I received a cheque for £140 as my original contract had specified a MEF of £85 - really happy! Hope that you can have some similar success - good luck.0

Last week I sent a letter to Bradford and Bingley, asking them to look at the mortgage exit fees. The exit fees were lumped into the final settlemen figure, so I'm not entirely sure what I paid. I would have preferred to phone B&B (as they did on Martins's show) but couldn't find a phone numbe. Anyway, I've received a letter back saying they're sorry I am "unhappy, and your complaint is is being investigated through our Internal Complaints Procedure" They expect to get back to me in the next 20 working days.
It's a different response that most people have had from B&B, but not a failure...yet.0 -
I asked Lloyds TSB to check my MEAF payments (I moved house twice in 4 years and got back a total of £425.
Thanks MartinSometimes later becomes never. ...0 -

at the same time I rang birmingham midshires who I left 5 years ago and they refunded me £75 within 2 wks by cheque.
I have now recieved £150 from the RBS.HOW MUCH ?0 -
My mortgage with Halifax was repaid in 2003. I phoned them with regards to claiming a MEAF refund and guess what - NOTHING. I was told there had not been an exit fee charged to me. Am I the only one this has happened to? All the posts seem to be success stories.0

I phoned Halifax (08451-203033) today re mortgage I exited in 2006. (MEAF £225 charged). I Didn't have my roll number or any paperwork but helpful staff informed me that when I took out the mortgage in 1998 I had been quoted £40 exit fee, and they could offer me £135 refund today. I accepted, cheque should be with me in 28days, or sooner.
£135 was worked out as £175-£40??
Well worth the effort.
Thank you Martin, keep up the good work!0
