My mortgage with Halifax was repaid in 2003. I phoned them with regards to claiming a MEAF refund and guess what - NOTHING. I was told there had not been an exit fee charged to me. Am I the only one this has happened to? All the posts seem to be success stories.

I just had the same response from IF (part of Halifax), I was initially asked my account number which I don't have. They then said that they knew what I was on about but that they don't charge exit fees only deeds redemption which is different?????

Does anyone know how to check IF?

On a plus we called the Abbey and got £130 within 2 weeks
  • I rang the Woolwich and was told i overpaid by £112 plus £21 interest. Gave them my bank details and the money was in my account 3 days later.
My Brother did the same with C&G and got £160.

    Thanks for the advice.xxx:j

Can anybody tell me where to find (or even begin looking for) what the MEAF was on my original National & Provincial (before they were taken over by/merged with Abbey National) mortgage.

I have all the documents relating to Abbey and my current provider (Coventry BS) but nothing at all on N&P.

Would Abbey have this info. and if so would they give me it? Also, if I request copies of such info. do they have to provide it and should I expect to pay a fee?

    p.s. I was charged £85 deeds handling charge + £65 discharge fee

  • Success-after being flatly turned down for anything by the Halifax persistence paid off and I have got over £100 back including the interest over a MEAF complaint!:T

One small victory for us little folk;)

When did you originally complete your N&P mortgage?

  • I called the number on Martin's list which took me through directly to the Woolwich (now Barclays) special 'Mortgage exit fee' line. Within 2 minutes the lady told me I was due £114.98, £100 overcharge plus 4% interest since that date). Took my bank details, was told it would be in my bank within 7 days - it got there in 3!

Excellent result! No letter writing or waiting at all....just how I like it

Recommeded all my friends too and I know one of them has had a successful call too.
  • Thanks to this site a 2 minute phone call to halifax yesterday netted me a £35 refund on a mortgage redeemed in 2002. I have still to pursue LloydsTsb Nat west and Stroud and Swindon so fingers crossed there !
PS Anyone know what the Stroud and Swindon MEAF should have been in 2002 ? I paid £125 in 2006

That's what I got back from my bank after asking for my MEAF refund. Original fee they should've charged: £95. What they actually took: £275. I phoned them today and got back the difference plus interest: total £193.69.

God bless you Martin Lewis - you're a prince among men!

    With love, kisses, hugs etc.
