  • :T :j I wrote to both Nationwide and A&L last week asking them to look into my mortgage exit fees when I changed my mortgages with them. I heard from Nationwide on Monday who told me they didn't owe me anything but had a cheque today from A&L for £210 for the mortgage I took out with them in 2004. Good result I think!!:rotfl:

After watching the programme last week, I wrote to Alliance and Leicester asking them to look into the exit fee I was charged, and today we have received a cheque for £220. Thank you so much.
  • just off phone with woolwich just answered some questions and he informed £114 would be credited to my bank account. thanks martin:A
  • I applied for two mortgages that I had back in 1999-2002, and 2002-2004

they claim there charges were fair and justified, but out of fairness they gave me back the difference

£!49 - not bad result for typing out a 5 min letter

    Cheers Martin:money:
  • I rang up the royal bank of scotland and asked for my cash back from changing morgages 2 years ago and they told me they were refunding me £150 however I have just had to ring back today because I am still waiting for the refund 8wks later.
at the same time I rang birmingham midshires who I left 5 years ago and they refunded me £75 within 2 wks by cheque.
    HOW MUCH ?
  • Following It pays to Watch on TV, I wrote to C & G about my MEAF and received cheque for £38.00 Better in our pockets than bank's account As pensioners we will have several meals out with this refund Gwynallt & Pamela Bowen
  • I am having no luck at all with Abbey. Rang and had a form to fill in. As I have had several motgages with Abbey I detailed all dates etc. on a seperate piece of paper.Received a letter today stating I am ineligible for a refund as the terms of my mortgage clearly specified a Mortgage Repayment fee of £225.Any ideas on how to pursue this? Feel Abbey are not playing fair. Anyone had any success with this particul;ar company?

I decided to give this a go and so went back through my old paperwork (I keep everything), not a task I relished. I couldn't find any mention of an exit fee when we took out the mortgage and the solicitors letter at the close of the mortgage didn't make it too clear what charge was for what. As I didn't have any figures to go on I used the template letter supplied by Martin but left out all the paragraphs with the numbers in, just saying that I think I may have been overcharged and could they (Cheltenham & Glos, originally a TSB mortgage) look into it please.

Just two weeks later I have a letter acknowledging that at the commencement of the mortgage there was no mention of any fee so they would be refunding me £50 plus 6 years interest! Excellent result and probably the easiest refund I have ever had.

So, don't worry if you can't find your old mortgage figures, knock off a letter anyway and see what happens.

I changed my mortgage late 2002/early 2003, could find the account no. but not the fees. Rang the Barclays/Woolwich this afternoon not expecting much but have a refund coming of 69.46 (incl. interest). Apparently I was charged 95.00 instead of 38.15. Will have to get my brother and sister to ring their ex motrtgage companies now....
  • I received a cheque for £220 from Alliance and Leicester in respect of mortgage exit fees from way back in 1999! Didn't think for one minute I would get anything from so long ago, but decided to use the template letter and try anyway, even though I didn't have a clue how much I had paid at the time. So glad I did - and now I have been telling all my friends and directing them to this brilliant site.

    Thanks!
