I used the number provided on Martins list to call the Abbey and received a cheque for £126. Its amazing that the banks have got away with this. Thanks Martin. Mind you i've spent it on a new T.V. already.

:rotfl: I didn't even know what a mortgage exit fee was before Martin Lewis alerted me. I moved house and kept my mortgage with Abbey in 2005 and on checking my mortgage repayment statement I WAS charged £225. I wrote Abbey a letter asking for a refund and saying if they did not feel I was entitled to one could they please explain why not so that I could forward their letter on to the FSA and the Martin Lewis website...............needless to say I am now in receipt of a cheque for £126....very much needed after christmas....thank you very much, Martin. xx0

Hello All
I sent a letter to Northern Rock about claiming back my MEAF. I have been sent a letter back from Peter McLaughlin in Customer Support in which he refers to a Discharge of Mortgage Fee (DOM). He says we are not owed anything. Any suggestions on how I should proceed.
I didn't get my bank fees claim in before the court case either and am not having much luck with the whole reclaiming thing!!!
We are doing some of the other recommendations from the forums and Martin's site so it's not a complete disaster.0 -

Thank you to all of you at MSE.com.
Sent a proforma letter last week. I didn't ask for the interest because I decided that, in my mind, it wasn't appropriate. Got a letter today telling me that A&L introduced an admin fee of £195 from 5/1/04 called the Early Closure Admin Charge and in August 2004, it was increased to £295. A&L state they have decided to reduce the fee to customers who took their mortgage out prior to August 2004 to the original level. They have kindly sent me a cheque for £235. :money:

Hi Noz
I'm afraid I don't know if I am entitled to anything. I am confused as to why when I asked about a MEAF Northern Rock wrote back talking about a DOM - are they the same thing? They say the DOM fee was 250 pounds at the time our most recent mortgage began and it has not changed.
I asked in my letter for the amount we actually paid and the amount that Northern Rock had originally stated in our mortgage contract (supposedly the 250 pounds) but that was totally ignored, I have tried looking back through old paperwork but can't find anything and to be honest I am not sure I would know it if I saw it.
From reading the other posts everyone elses mortgage lenders have been more forthcoming about the figures concerned and paying back unfair amounts charged.
Has anyone else out there tried contacting Northern Rock? On Martin's contact table it says they have put 15 million pounds aside to deal with MEAFs and I wrote to the address Martin had listed. We changed from Northern Rock to The Northern Bank (N.I) at the end of August 20070
