Read about repayment refund weeks ago , but only just thought about sorting it out.Spoke to nice guy at Halifax and he knew about the refund before I had chance to explain.Worked out that as we had moved home and increased our mortgage in 2001 (original mortgage in 1995) we were due a refund of £35 from first mortagge and £60 from second mortgage , making £95 coming our way "within a fortnight":money: :money: :money:
So impressed with the whole MSE website , my life has taken on a whole new challenge.I almost feel not English in not paying full price and asking for refunds etc..
THANKS MARTIN:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:The truth shall set you free.....................0 -
Dear Anyone!I am having a problem with TMB. I have been with them for about 3 years. In 2005 I changed the rate I was on to a fixed deal - which obviously involved receiving a new offer. I have looked at this offer back to front - and can find no reference to a Mortgage exit fee of £724!! They tell me its on the agreement - but I do not have any agreement. I have the Product Transfer Offer - and that's it.When I asked for this fee to be removed - they refused. Can someone please advise? ThanksErumThe TMB contact is: James Whitely (T: 08457 253 253; F:08457 603 9009)0

:money: Having followed the advise on claiming Mortgage exit fees back I sent of two letters last week (Britannia Building Society & Northern Rock) for a refund.
Had a reply in the post this morning to say I am entitled to a £65 refund from the Northern Rock - Hope the Briannia is fruitfull too!!!
Many Thanks Martin.:money:0 -
:money: :j One simple phone call to the Halifax (used say no to 0870), and success they are going to send a cheque for £75 :-the difference in the MEAF stated when the mortgage was taken out and what we actually paid when it was closed.
Not a bad days work and £140 better of too,(thanks to Martin).
I think a little Celebration is in order !!

Last week I sent a letter to Bradford and Bingley, asking them to look at the mortgage exit fees. The exit fees were lumped into the final settlemen figure, so I'm not entirely sure what I paid. I would have preferred to phone B&B (as they did on Martins's show) but couldn't find a phone numbe. Anyway, I've received a letter back saying they're sorry I am "unhappy, and your complaint is is being investigated through our Internal Complaints Procedure" They expect to get back to me in the next 20 working days.
It's a different response that most people have had from B&B, but not a failure...yet.
Now it's a success! Got a letter last week saying that although they had the right to raise prices, they would still offer me £125. Cheque arrived yesterday. :T0 -
Just called the Halifax and asked them about my repayment fee.
I settled my mortgage last week and was charged £175.00 repayment & £50.00 despach fee.
Not knowing what the original agreement was I asked the Lady to check & gave her my account number. Quick as you like she told me that the original fee was agreed at £50.00 repayment fee and offered to send me a cheque. I asked about the deeds despach issue, and was told that this was not covered by the F.S.A. announcement.
£125.00 for 5 mins work. Martin your'e a bloody genious thanks
That's strange! I have phoned Halifax and they seem to have changed their tune. They are now saying that 'admin' fees can change and therefore they're not liable. I phoned back and saidd I wasn't happy and now they are saying they can't find any trace of my previous mortgage with them and unless I can provide evidence to them, they won't be going any further with my claim!0 -
One quick letter to our previous mortgage lender brought me an immediate payment of £100 with no hassle.
Thank you Martin
