  • :T Hi all,
This is my 1st post and I just wanted to let everyone know the MEAF sample letter thingy works!
I sent my letter to Nationwide building society and within a week had my cash back!
Couldnt believe it, I had no idea if i'd paid a MEAF or not, so was thrilled to have my 'free money'!
    :j
  • I wrote to Bradford & Bingley last week about my MEAF using the sample letter. Today I got a letter to say they are sending me a cheque for £180. Thank you MSE.

Took out mortgage with N&P Aug 1996 (same month as they were taken over by Abbey) and switched to Coventry BS Feb/March 2001

From the dates it looks like you should have paid £50 but probably paid £85 so you should get a refund around the region of £35. :p

That's strange! I have phoned Halifax and they seem to have changed their tune. They are now saying that 'admin' fees can change and therefore they're not liable. I phoned back and saidd I wasn't happy and now they are saying they can't find any trace of my previous mortgage with them and unless I can provide evidence to them, they won't be going any further with my claim!
If they can't trace your mortgage because it was closed over 6 years ago, they aren't liable to pay you anything in any case. When exactly did you redeem?
  • I telephoned the Alliance & Leicester last week and got a cheque back three days later for £77. I was able to give them the mortgage account number (we switched 5 years ago) so that probably helped. Thank you so much MSE.
  • I followed the instructions on the site on how to get your exit fees refunded. On 13th Feb I telephoned Birmingham Midshires and explained that we had changed our mortgage to another lender in early 2003 and gave my old roll number. I asked whether we were entitled to a refund. They said they would check and let me know in 3 to 5 working days. Today, 2 days later I have received a letter showing that we paid £80 exit fee which was in line with our contract but as a gesture of goodwill they are:beer: refunding the £80, all I have to do is return an acceptance slip. It's already on its way back to them. £80 for a 2 minute phone call. Thanks Moneyexpert.
  • I sent a short letter to Nationwide BS on Tuesday requesting a MEAF refund on mortgages we had with them a couple of years ago and to be honest didn't even think they would reply as I didn't have any account numbers but today (Friday) have received a cheque for £90 :T I am so shocked! Thanks Martin. :money:
