  • Hi MSE & all readers,
We wrote to Abbey a couple of weeks ago using the template letter supplied on this site and guess what.....

They wrote and sent a form for us to fill in with information they should already have had - since we included things like reference numbers and account numbers etc in our letter. In fact they had pre-filled in some of the fields within the form!! (Bizarre!) What-ever!... we filled the missing gaps and sent the form back on Monday (30th April) and Mr Postman delivered a letter this morning (3rd May) with a cheque for £130!!!

Thank you Martin and any helpers you have for a stirling site - next step Bank charges... Abbey are going to love us ;o)

To everyone else - it works!! it really works!!

    Hi,

Wrote to bank in March, still had no reply so I phoned today and was told I would be getting £23.00 back. I was charged £200.00. They said I had agreed to the charge of £177.00.

I have now sent a letter from Martins template asking for a full list of charges etc, also asking for a refund of £162.00 which includes 8% interest other wise i will take it further. I was informed that it shouldn't have cost no more than £50.00?

Thank you Martin for such a wonderful site.

    Regards

    Farquarpigmix.

    Hi,

have I been misinformed about £50.00? So the charge of £177.00 is correct then?

    Cheers

Couldn't find my mortgage closure details but wrote a letter of enquiry to Mortgage Trust. They replied by return that although my particular loan was not covered by the FSA ruling (I don't know why), as a goodwill gesture, they would refund the difference of £128 between the original exit fee at the start if the loan and what I paid. Nice result, thanks for the information.

Well, we wrote to Bristol & West and complained about our redemption charges that we incurred in 2001. They had charged us £165. I wasn't even sure how much it was, I just gave them my customer reference number and they worked it our.
Apparently we should have been charged

    10 days interest at 7.74% = £55.77
    Admin Fee of £50
    Deeds Release Fee of £37.50

I would be interested to know if any of the above are not considered valid?

This means they are offering us £21.73 being the difference in the two amounts.

    Nige. . . . .
  • :T I've just called the Woolwich/Barclays re MEAF on the dedicated freephone line and now have £145 plus £17.93 interest going into my bank account in three days. The assistant, Sabrina, was very helpful and the whole process took no longer than two minutes.

After hearing about this is Martin's email, I phoned the Natwest to see if I was owed anything for the mortgage I redeemed last year. It was unbelievably easy and I nearly fell off the chair when the lovely man said I was owed £150. Cheque in the post.

Thank you Martin! Drinks are on me!
