    Thanks for the advice.
When I contacted the Dunfermline B.S. you supplied they said I had
the wrong number but passed me on to the correct one.

They were very pleasant and promised to look into the matter.
1 week later I received a letter stating that they considered
their charge of £75 (it was a number of years ago) to be fair, however at the time I left the fee had been reduced to £50 for a short term and I had not recieved the discount.

They enclosed a cheque for £25 and an apology for the oversight.

Not a fortune today but a success all the same.

I have just been on the phone to Natwest re exit fees.

I was charged £225 and they told me that I am not entitled to any refund as per terms of the mortage.

    Are they correct?

When can I find out the exact ruling whether you can claim or not?

    Thanks

I wasn't going to do anything about this as I thought I wouldn't be entitled to anything. I contacted Natwest as I changed mortgage from them in Jan this year. After 2mins on phone the person said £125.00 would be put back into me account in the next 10days. So now I'm going away for the bank holiday weekend to spend this!!!!

We just paid off our Woolwich/Barclays Open Plan offset mortgage nine years early (YIPPEE!!).

We'd been with the Woolwich since 1991, but remortgaged (still with them) a couple of times.

When we cleared the mortgage they charged us a £250 exit fee, but one week later they paid £180 back into our bank account.

According to the guy at the Woolwich call centre, this is all due – largely – to this site.

This is FANTASTIC - getting a total of £52.66 back from Cheltenham & Gloucester for a 5 min call - I didnt know my old mortgage account number or any contract details, they just worked it all out for me!

The Alliance & Leicester charged us a £195 exit fee when we switched our mortgage in 2004. The original documents only referred to a £75 fee to return the title deeds, so I wrote off asking for a refund of £120.

I got an acknowledgement within a week, and they coughed up the full £120 just a week later!

    Cher-ching!!!

Alliance and Leicester charged me £295 mortgage redemption fee when at the time that I took out my mortgage I assumed that it was £95. I made a claim for a refund of £200. A&L sent me a cheque for £100 and a letter stating that when I took out my mortgage there was not a redemption fee. I returned the £100 cheque and using the statement in their letter I demanded the full £295. In return I received a cheque for £210 which I accepted.

Thank you for this helpful info. I was successful in getting £100 returned to me from the Halifax.
It is a little revenge after they overcharged me early repayment fees, around £1000 when I changed my mortgage over last year. I said it was £330 which I had in writing, but they sent me an updated form which I had never saw before!
I got so fed up with phoning and getting past from pillar to post, that I ended up just paying it.
    So thanks for that.
