    Hi
Saw your article on Meaf charges and immediately sent a letter to Nationwide about the mortgage I left two years ago
I had no idea what the charge stated was on the contract I signed when I took the mortgage out or what I paid when I left so asked them to send me this information so I could see if it was worth making a claim
3 days later I received a letter stating I paid £90 but at the time I took out the mortgage no fee was stated so please find enclosed a cheque for the £90 I paid
    Brilliant!!!!
Thankyou moneysaving expert and thankyou Nationwide for a satisfactory and extremely fast reply
Still waiting to hear from Barclays about the £905 bank charges Im hoping to reclaim but they did send the 6 years of statements I asked for no questions asked so fingers crossed!!

IS ANYONE OUT THERE ABOUT TO REPAY THEIR MORTGAGE WITH THE WOOLWICH????!!!! A headache which will not go away!

Is it legal for the Woolwich to still be asking for an exit fee of £275 when by their own admission should be £50? Where else are we billed for something which we do not owe and told not to worry because we will get a refund within 10 days. All of this is because the computer system at the Woolwich has not been updated! Are computers taking over where commonsense left off?
I completely understand the frustration but at least there is a process in place to get the money returned to you, I'm sure their systems will be upgraded soon.

Can you tell me the dates you bought and sold - want to make sure Halifax are not getting away with it.

I bought through them in 1991 - they said on the phone the exit fee was £40 but I was charged £75 in 2001. This does not sound right to me. Although I can no longer remember what was charged at the time, - everwhere I read it does seem to indicate the charge as being higher than this,

    Any advice????????????????????

Phoned the Halifax today, my original fee should of been £40, when I moved they charged me £115. Cheque for £75 will be with me in 7-10 days. I asked if they were paying interest and they said no, I couldn't be bothered pushing it, I'm happy with £75.

    Thank you Martin.

Hi I rang Standard Life to claim back my fees. they took my details over the phone, and the girl was very pleasant. Two days later got a letter giving a refund of whole amount (£185), and a day later in my bank. Good on standard life.

Now Abbey, who we are back with. The bloke i spoke to treated me like he was paying me out of his own pocket. have to write in, no guarantee i can have anything back, and 30 day turnaround.
If I wasnt just about to pay off my mortgage, I woudl move from Abbey.
lets see what I get when my 30 days is up.

Yes Abbey seem to be making things a little difficult for people. I wrote to them with all the relevant details including a copy of my wedding certificate (as I have married since taking redeeming the mortgage and wanted the cheque to be addressed correctly) They sent me a standard letter and form to sign and return (No pre paid enveleope!) yet all the information they asked for they had already printed onto the form..what is the point of this other than to delay payment and hope people will not be bothered to send yet another letter!
Barclays/woolwich (who previously I would not have spoken a good word about!) different kettle of fish, free phone number, immediate refund into my bank and all I needed to know was my Bank Account number (for them to put the refund into) and address that the mortgage was taken out in!

    Boooo Abbey...get your act together!

I was told I am due a rebate of £35.00. this being the difference between 1991 (£40) and 2001 £75.

Thought it would be more than this. What are your dates-sure they are trying it on!!!

WOW! That was so easy! When I got a halifax mortgage the exit fee was £100, when I left them it was £175! So I have just rung up and with no bother at all they are sending me a cheque for the difference which is £75-00!

Hooray - Beer & a BBQ this bank holiday weekend!

Congrats! Halifax told me we were only charged £75 (2001)- which I am not convincedTook the mortgage in 1991 and the charge was £40 then. What date did you change?

  • When checking what we had paid to Chelthenam and Gloucester and what we should have paid when we moved house nearly five years ago, I discovered that we had paid £865.33 Early Repayment Charge because we were leaving a fixed term deal early. However, on further investigation, as we were staying with the C & G, I found out that we shouldn't have paid this fee. A quick phone call to C & G and less than seven days later we had a cheque for the full amount. Thanks Martin, without you we would never have discovered this.

Hi, thanks to listening to you on LK today on 26 April we are now £235 better off. We took out a mortgage with Alliance & Leicester 8 years ago and two years ago we switched to Nationwide. We were charged £295 to do this by the Alliance & Leicester. Unfortunately we didn't have the original contract for the Alliance & Leicester so we didn't know what was originally quoted but the following day I phoned the Alliance & Leicester, quoted the mortgage account number and were told we had been overcharged and they would be in touch. One week later (3rd May) we received a cheque in the post for £235. We are absolutely delighted with this. Thanks to you.
