Result! :j
Yesterday I got a cheque from Abbey for £175. I redeemed my mortgage last year and was charged £225 for the privilege. It only took one letter (thanks for the template, Martin!) and filling in a silly form. The cheque arrived two days after they received the completed form.
Terrific!0 -
Thanks Martin,
Just read the article on Mortgage exits fees, thought i would call and see if any chance on mine from Woolwich. Gave the address and did not say anything else the lady said "they owe me £130.50 including interest which account do i want it to go too"?
Brilliant many thanks

I have changed my mortgage twice in the past 6 years. Contacted C&G answered a few questions they then advised me that I had £40.00 to come back plus interest which made it a total of £50.69.
Next I contacted Halifax they again took a few details and announced that I was entitled to £100 refund and advised that they would send a cheque out in the next 28 days.
Was really easy to do just needed my mortgage account numbers and I had married and had changed my name so I had to answer a few security questions all in all took about 10 minutes each call.
:beer:I love to wake up and meet the day. I think that life is not to be wasted or thrown away.:D0 -
Farquarpigmix - there is no "rule" about £50. There was some irrelevant speculation that the costs incurred by lenders might be £50, but as the FSA's ruling explicitly states that costs are irrelevant, lenders can charge any amount that they told you up-front. Accordingly, your £177 is very possibly quite right.0

Just called Woolwich on the dedicated number, gave my mort account number, name and address and was told immediately that i was owed £130 + £11.18 interest for remortgage in April 2005.
No fuss, no complications and less than 5 mins on the phone!
A bit like Ronseal really............does exactly what it says on the tin LOL
Thanks a lot Martin.0 -
I phoned the woolwich, gave my mortgage number and was amazed when she told me there would be a cheque on the way for £250.00. Excellent!!!!
DONT DELAY YOU DO IT TODAY0 -

WOW! That was so easy! When I got a halifax mortgage the exit fee was £100, when I left them it was £175! So I have just rung up and with no bother at all they are sending me a cheque for the difference which is £75-00!
Hooray - Beer & a BBQ this bank holiday weekend!0 -
Just got £165 back from Scarborough BS (North Yorkshire Mortgages). They took a bit of chasing mind having 'lost' my first letter (strange that as one member of staff said it was on the system and quoted the date back to me!) Never mind got it now.
good luck everyone0 -
IS ANYONE OUT THERE ABOUT TO REPAY THEIR MORTGAGE WITH THE WOOLWICH????!!!! A headache which will not go away!
Is it legal for the Woolwich to still be asking for an exit fee of £275 when by their own admission should be £50? Where else are we billed for something which we do not owe and told not to worry because we will get a refund within 10 days. All of this is because the computer system at the Woolwich has not been updated! Are computers taking over where commonsense left off?0 -
Phoned the Halifax today, my original fee should of been £40, when I moved they charged me £115. Cheque for £75 will be with me in 7-10 days. I asked if they were paying interest and they said no, I couldn't be bothered pushing it, I'm happy with £75.
Thank you Martin.0
