The OP's question about when a contract is concluded in Argos is an interesting one. A price was offered, the OP offered to pay, and the cashier accepted and gave a receipt.
WRONG to OP statedEventually the store manager came out & told me she would not give me the item paid for nor would she give me back the gift cards as she was not happy about the circumstances in which I'd obtained them.
so they were not happy at the way he obtained the cards, so disputing this way, means that they should return the games to the OP0 -
They probably will give him the games back after they've finished their investigation. He needs to wait for them to do what they have to do.0

the OP only has the store managers say that they are investigating.
Th OP needs to contact Argos HQ i would suggest the email i gave earlier to the directors office0 -
Despite Argos not being happy with how he sold the games, the OP has done nothing illegal. The contract to sell the games was concluded, and the OP had the legal right to sell them. He offered them, and Argos accepted. They cannot now say "Sorry, we don't want to buy them from you now" They already have. It's done and dusted.
Argos are completely out of order here. The gift cards are genuine, and whilst it's not theft, it's pretty close to it.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

i would say its theft/fraud as now Argos have the games and most likely sold them on by now along with the gift vouchers and the OP has nothing.0 -
It's not theft. Theft is dishonestly intending to permanently deprive someone of something. Argos believe they are right, so it's not dishonest. It's not right, but it's not dishonest (in the legal sense). And they are not intending to permanently deprive the OP.
This is a civil matter, not a criminal one.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

If it is 1 long transactiongames -> giftcards -> partpayment on Ipadthen essentially, texranger is correct, Argos have to restore the games to OP
if it is 2 short transactionsgames -> giftcardsthen as you say, the first transaction is complete. But this leaves Argos with a problem, in that their terms and conditions cannot void the OP's rights to the value on the giftcards without restoring his original property to him.
giftcards -> partpayment on IpadHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Argos ( their manager) is disputing the way the giftcards were issued ( so saying giftcards should not have been given) so therefore voiding the giftcards as if they were never issued, so Argos now MUST return the games to the OP.
the OP should email the Argos executive department as they are the ones that can get this sorted0 -
I am questioning what right do Argos have to void the gift cards seeing as that contract is now concluded.
If I buy something in a shop, pay and get the item, they cannot tell me later that they sold me the item in error. Many of the questions we get here (and have an appropriate sticky) is when a sale contract is complete. It's when the offer of payment is accepted and the goods handed over, or dispatched. That is what happened here.
Why can Argos now say they have the right to void that sale. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
