Argos won't give me my item paid for with gift cards

Options
Hi all,

I need a bit of help.

Over the last few weeks I have been trading in used console games with Argos at various stores.

These have been mainly the same few titles as I could raise a few pounds by buying elsewhere & trading them at Argos.

They bought these from me & exchanged for gift cards.

I wanted an Ipad - that was the whole point of the excersise to get it a little cheaper - so I went to my local store to buy one.

I handed over the gift cards & they went through the till & I was given a reciept as normal & waited for my item.

Eventually the store manager came out & told me she would not give me the item paid for nor would she give me back the gift cards as she was not happy about the circumstances in which I'd obtained them. She thought that I had obtained them fraudulently. I told her what I had done & that I had reciepts to prove the games were mine to sell but she would not do anything.

I returned the next day & she said that nothing would happen until a full investigation had been carried out into wether the goods traded in were legitimate - ie not stolen or copied.

It has now been a few days & I've heard nothing. Can they legally withold my giftcards or purchased item?

Any advise would be gratefully recieved.

No as I expect them just to rally round & give me the same answer as the Store manager. I was wondering if the sale contract had been completed as they accepted the gift cards & gave me a reciept for the sale.

Send a letter before action threatening them with small claims court.

Yes I agree you must get in touch with Argos HO.

I once returned an expensive lock to a well known DIY store but I did not have the receipt.I wanted to exchange it for a different lock not get a refund.

They were really funny with me asked me all sorts of questions and then said that I could not exchange it but they would take my details and I would get my refund through the post from HO.

I said ok and bought the new lock that I wanted.

I heard nothing from them for several weeks so I telephoned the HO explained and within a week I had my refund cheque.

How you doing McBain (Wolfcastle LOL).

    Long time no speak!

When I read the post I thought it sounded like something you would do!

Just imagine you had been refused RnR - what sort of fuss would you have made? Get back down to Argos and create that fuss!

Why assume they'll say the same ?
    Pick up the phone LOL

There's plenty of jobsworths in retail who make up their own rules just to make themselves feel important. This may not even be company policy- and anyway you've allowed a reasonable length of time to pass and nothing has happened so you are more than justified in getting CS involved.

Are you sure that the games you traded were legit?

If they were not legit., why would Argos issue the gift cards in exchange?
