I cant remember all the details of this thread so i'm going to ask outright.....

OP, did argos mention at the time that the "fraud" they suspected was you trading in games in a commercial entity? If not, I'm wondering if perhaps we're over complicating matters. Perhaps Argos have had instances of people using forged vouchers to buy goods or perhaps had a security breach in which someone got hold of the template of vouchers or actual vouchers themselves?

If you paid for the product completely in vouchers or even mostly in vouchers......this would probably flag for them as the average shopper would not have £400-£660 worth of vouchers. I doubt the average shopper would have more than £100 of vouchers.

well i went into Argos with £400 of HSV for xmas gifts and no one questioned this.

Were those just for argos or for a range of shops? Were they issued by argos? Were they acquired through the trade-in system? Perhaps it is only recently became a problem or perhaps its only a problem local to particular stores. Or perhaps the store you got just didnt care, have since had their asses kicked and hence why stores are now on the lookout.

It could be the vouchers are different or have some telltale sign which show what branch it was issued it. If OP has traded in to many stores, this could be why its caught their attention.

I'm not saying this is whats happened. I'm asking the OP if its possible. Theres no point of us assuming it was because he traded the games in if there are other possibilities. All i'm asking is if the store have specifically said its because of the games that were traded in, other whether the OP and all of us are just assuming this.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • I would like to add that when I've been into Argos in the past with more than one game they ( staff and or manager ) on more than once occasion has told me they can only take 1 of the same game, but just come back tomorrow! Which I have done.

When you trade games in there is NO terms and conditions provided or anything to sign, if conditions apply you have to be shown these and agree to them, but there is none in the store.

A simple sheet is filled in, store no, till, transaction id and then a disruption of the games and cat numbers. They then put your name and address down and give you the main copy and keep a carbon one.

I'm no legal expert but if conditions apply don't you have to be made aware of them? For any recourse if said terms are broken for it to be void?

So the example of a water tight legal document where you don't fully disclose will make said contract/agreement void is an unfair

Oh and not all staff stores fill a form out they just had you the gift card with xx amount on it.

The OP was aware of the T&C's and admitted it?
